My recent visit to this local French café was quite an experience, though not entirely in the way I had hoped. The moment we walked in, we were greeted by a woman with a very thick French accent, whose enthusiasm was so over-the-top and loud that it felt more like a performance at a theme park than a genuine welcome. While some might find this charming, it did feel a bit forced and overwhelming.
The menu itself was extensive, but unfortunately, the quality of the food didn’t match the enthusiasm of the service. The pastries, though nicely displayed, lacked authenticity, and the baguette was not fresh or house-made. My sandwich, the so-called “Marseille,” was simply tuna out of a can on a bad/ mediocre baguette with minimal seasoning and effort. The side salad I opted for, instead of fries, was just some chopped romaine with a few unwashed grape tomatoes, a bit of red onion, and some recently thawed frozen corn. No really ! It was far from impressive. If the café isn’t planning to improve their bread quality in-house, they could easily elevate their sandwiches by sourcing baguettes from excellent local bakeries like Moxie or Dry Storage, both of which offer fantastic, authentic baguettes that would instantly enhance the quality of their sandwich program.
That said, the hospitality of the staff was truly warm and welcoming, and it’s clear that they put a lot of effort into making guests feel at home. If they could match that level of care in their food, it would be a much more...
Read moreWe were looking for a brunch spot on Saturday morning. We went to this restaurant to try it out. There was a sign at the door that said to wait to be seated. So we stood and waited. It was about 10 minutes. So at some point we pulled out our phones. The hostess eventually came. However she took the person behind us. I let her know that. I’m sure I sounded mildly irritated. But I am certain it was not offensive— I just wanted to let her know. At that point she began raising her voice and calling me passive aggressive. That was definitely annoying but I kept trying to explain. She then told me we had to order our food at the counter. I did ask why the sign did not indicate that… she then told us that we could leave the restaurant. And proceeded to berate us loudly out the door, yelling “have a nice day” on the way out. All I can say is that I was trying to stay centered in the face of the most rude treatment I have ever experienced at a restaurant. It’s hard for me to understand why it was offensive to let her know that we were there first. Regardless, we will never return to that restaurant. And are currently eating at a neighboring restaurant being treated well and treating...
Read moreThis place has become a major disappointment. My crepe with egg, cheese, and potato contained chunks of French fries instead of potatoes, and the egg inside was raw. When I asked the waiter if it was supposed to be raw, he said, "It’s supposed to be over easy," and walked away. I enjoy eggs cooked over easy, but this one wasn’t cooked at all.
They used to serve crepes with a side of cooked potatoes, but now they cut corners and use French fries instead. Their “salad” is just iceberg lettuce with Thousand Island dressing, served in a plastic container. Everything here seems premade, and the salad resembles something you’d get on an airline. The other crepe had chunks of ham that were clearly of the lowest quality. I left after hardly eating any food, which rarely happens.
They’ve also reduced staff, and now you have to order your food at a counter. You’re asked to tip on the screen before receiving any food or service, and on top of that, they tack on a credit card fee. This place is very expensive for what you get and is nothing like the food...
