This is regarding the Vegetarian Dinner Special, Vegetable Fried Noodles, and Vegetable Momos (dumplings)
When I first arrived in Boulder a few years ago, Tibet Kitchen was consistently tasty. I am a vegetarian, so I would always get the Vegetarian Dinner Special or fried noodles and vegetable dumplings (momos). During this period of time, perhaps 1 out of every 4 instances of me ordering from Tibet Kitchen, the food was just okay. It is as if during these unsatisfactory instances, they had a different chef or something of that nature. I am not sure, I can only speculate as to why this was. But this is because the other 3 times were absolutely delicious and phenomenal!
At some point, however, about a year or two ago, I noticed a significant deterioration in taste/quality of food compared to their taste/quality of food when I originally started ordering from them. I started dining out much less at Tibet Kitchen as a result of this observation.
Instead of 1 out of every 4 instances being unsatisfactory, now it seemed like every and all orders placed at Tibet Kitchen now were unsatisfactory. The vegetable fried noodles used to be very tasty, wholesome, and filling. Now they taste mediocre. It is like a completely different recipe is being used - and an inferior one at that. The vegetable momos - arguably the dish that put them on the radar - tastes awful now. Again, they must have changed recipe or the current cook/chef needs lessons from previous cook/chef. I even noticed another recent review commenting on how poor the momos were.
It is as if Tibet Kitchen at some point during the last 1-2 years changed management and/or chefs. This is quite possible as the staff is entirely different from when I was first coming here, including the cooks. It is a real shame as it is a far cry from what it used to be. Also new staff is no where near as friendly and warming as previous...
Read moreWe arrived around 9 after a very long day of driving. The restaurant closes around 9:30, so thankfully they still took our order. The lunch menu is different from the dinner menu and there were not many pictures of the food items to aid in our selection. We were able to place our order and wait in the dining area. It was neat and clean, but we were asked to take our food to-go, since they were closing soon.
We also made use of their bathroom and found it was not inviting and a little dirty. It seemed to be doubling as a supply room. The toilet seat was also not secure. There was soap and the paper towel dispenser was full, so we could do everything we needed to do.
When our order arrived, it was very hot and fresh. It arrived in a timely manner, about 20 minutes or so. It all tasted good, and I would like to eat there again sometime. We ordered chili chicken, chicken fried rice, and the sample platter of momo. We had the chicken and vegetable momo for the platter. We were also impressed with the portion size. It is a great value...
Read moreRecently went back for the first time since the Fall and like all good things in Boulder, the lunch combo which has been a fan favorite for years is now over. I have always ordered the same thing Chicken Curry, ground beef with peas, Beef Shaptak with fried noodles. I was excited to have one of my favorite lunches in Boulder only to find that they have changed the format and my favorite combo is no longer. Rather than pick your 3 scoops from 6 different entrees and fried noodles or rice, now it's beef, chicken or veggie. You get chickpeas, potatoes and the beef and veggies poured over a pound of plain, white rice, with the entree portions on top of the rice were tiny The beef strips were overcooked and I think there 5 strips, 3 slices of pepper and some onion and just boring white rice? I am going to pass on Tibet Kitchen from now on. Tibet in Lafayette is so much better. I just wish they hadn't changed from the pick a scoop style that I have loved all these years. Not to mention the limited parking, with 2 spots taken...
