Considering the aesthetic, Insta-style photography along with multiple mentions of "fire-baked," I am sad to report being very underwhelmed. Now before I continue, some pizzas are apples and oranges, so if you're not a fan of wood-fired, pizza Napoli, then you might be interested in Blaze. If you like crispy, fire-baked pizzas, continue:
Any time I'm in a new place and want pizza, I look for fire-baked pizzas that will deliver. If they don't have wood-fired pizza, I'll go ahead and get the next best thing: straight up fire-baked pizza. The place is called BLAZE, so I'm guessing this pizza has absolutely perfected fire baking to have the concept nailed, right? This is where we have to get to the crust: while not terrible, floppy, nor raw, there was no blistering, no "leopard print," no unmistakable TASTE of a fire-baked pizza. The dough itself was also quite bland.
Now on to the sauce: it didn't taste much different than a mass pizza chain's sauce. Super sweet, didn't taste fresh, etc. In fact, I ordered 2 cups of different sauces: their red sauce and spicy red sauce. I expected their spicy red sauce to be like a nice Arrabiata. In case it wasn't spicy enough, I got some red pepper flake. As I expected, the spicy red wasn't spicy in the slightest. As I didn't expect, I could barely taste a difference between the two. There wasn't a mistake on tbe order, it did say there were, indeed, 2 different types or sauce.
The cheese bread? Nope! Underseasoned, barely any cheese, and barely any garlic.
Lastly, the salad and the fancy-sounding "olive oil drizzle." I ordered a Greek salad, and while the salad itself looked lovely (it's hard to make an ugly Greek salad) the DRESSING was absolutely abhorrent. Greek salads should have a simple vinaigrette (heavy on the acid) but this was some heavy, creamy, VERY parsley-forward dressing. The upside is that it tasted like it was made in-house, the downside is that is tasted so bad. The "olive oil drizzle" you can get on your pizzas or bread? Nonexistent as far as my tastebuds were concerned. Olive oil as a condiment should be TASTED. I tasted nothing. Just one more disappointment.
I'm actually bit irritated because my hotel has an oven and I could have saved $5 on the pizza by just buying a Margerita frozen pizza from Newman's Own. It would have also tasted LIGHTYEARS better --I'm not exaggerating! Go ahead and find this pizza in Kroger. It's the real deal, cross my heart. I ended up spending $36 on a pizza, sticks, and side salad that will be 80% wasted & definitely would have had more left had we not been tired and starving.
I don't however, blame the delivery person or anyone who doesn't make the food. The reason I put 3 stars instead of 2 was the very dedicated delivery person (Give your drivers some sort of heating apparatus, btw) Without the delivery person, 2 stars instead of one because it was edible.
Save your $$. Buy Newman's own margerita and some unfiltered olive oil to drizzle, some red pepper flakes, and you're now...
Read moreI recently arrived back to work after eating lunch at Blaze in Bowling Green, KY. I ordered half pizza/half salad (just like Azzip pizza) and when I went to pay, the lady asked the manager how to ring it up (she was new) and he (Wes) replied, “Ring up “Build your Own” then ring up a side salad.” The price was $8.25 (build-your-own) + 4.25 (side salad) plus tax. I asked why I was being charged for a whole pizza and a side salad when I ordered half pizza half salad. The manager (Wes) said, “That’s the price and if you ask a different manager they will tell you the same.” The lady who first took my order came down and agreed with Wes and said that she would only charge me $8.25 this time but next time it would be $14+.
My friend and I sat down to eat (food was good) and a lady that was wiping tables asked how everything was and I said, “Well the food is good but…” she said, “tell me what’s wrong” so I explained the whole ordeal to her. She agreed with me and said that they were wrong and went up to the manager and told him as such. She came back and said that it was the correct price. She then asked me if I wanted to speak to the owner, which I didn’t, and I told her I was going to contact corporate.
I had two pieces left and the owner walks over and sits down and tries to explain to me that because the salad is on crust and pesto that it would cost more. I didn’t understand what his point was because if I had a whole pizza, it would have been marina, cheese and meat on that side where the salad was located. I would assume pesto and lettuce is cheaper so why charge for an entire pizza and a size salad when I was only getting ½ and ½?
They should NEVER sell pizza half salad/half pizza if they’re going to charge you for an entire side salad and an entire pizza. If they are copying Azzip pizza then they should do what they do and charge for 1 pizza if half of it is salad. I will just go to Azzip pizza...
Read more*Try the blood orange beverage! Pros: •Great, customizable pizza with a variety of different topping options •Quick and friendly service •Easy on your wallet •Good location
Cons: •Expect burned ends on your pizza, especially on busy days •Small bathrooms •Not many sides rather than pizza •A better red sauce could be used •Cooler than normal room temperature • Very noisy overall, not for those looking for a more peaceful atmosphere.
Great pizza place at a good location. This restaurant was a decent size and ordering was a breeze along with receiving our food, which was quick as well. A little burnt but that was expected with thinner, smaller pizzas and the amount of pizzas going out. Didn't like that the bathrooms weren't walk-in ( one toilet, one urinal). Temperature in the restaurant was kept a little colder than usual and left me a little chilled. Not an ideal place for large families ( family of 6 here), got two pizzas, drinks and such, for around $22. This would be a great place for anyone planning to eat a whole pizza that are made custom to their desire which can be easily done due to the thinness and size of the pizza (around medium). Lastly, I didn't notice any TV's in this restaurant, and I don't believe any WIFI was available. This is a relatively new restaurant so that's understandable for the most part. Overall, I would recommend trying this pizza place out if you're looking for something new when it comes to your own personal style of pie, but would suggest it be a wait and see on how the restaurant progresses, because this restaurant has a lot...
