I never write reviews, but I had to after staying at this Country Inn location.
I stayed at the Bowling Green, KY location for five nights during a conference sponsored by my own university that was being held at Western Kentucky University, in BG, KY. I consider myself mature and resourceful, but nonetheless, at 20 years old, this was the longest trip from home that I had made alone (400+ miles).
My review is composed of three points:
Pre-Stay Prior to my stay, I was in contact with the hotel front desk for about a week. I called to be sure that I could check in under 21. The folks at the desk were very understanding of my need to make multiple calls to clarify details and were very friendly throughout the process. At one point I was reluctant to book my stay via booking.com because I have never used a third-party booking site. The hotel desk encouraged me to take that route if it was cheaper, which was a very customer-oriented conversation given that it meant less money for the hotel. Ultimately, as I made the long drive to Bowling Green, I felt like I was headed towards home.
Stay My room was average for the price, but I was shocked at the size- it was much larger than I had expected. Nothing was broken, there were no bed bugs or any other hotel horrors. I had asked for a quiet room and was not disturbed at any point throughout the week. Breakfast was always ready a little early, which I appreciated- it was nothing hot/special due to the pandemic but perfectly enough for a hungry college kid. There are loads of restaurants around, and there is a Cabela's about a mile away. BG was a great small town to kill time in during the evenings following my seminars. The desk was helpful throughout and I never walked in or out the door without a genuine greeting. The stay itself was a great experience.
Post-stay Good service did not stop. Following my stay, I did not receive an official receipt via booking.com, as I had thought I would. A month later I called the desk back, and within two minutes had a receipt waiting for me at my personal email with a ":)". Great service, kind staff, and a great experience for a first-time solo traveler. Highly recommended for those who are traveling under 21 or families with kids.
All in all, great stay. Each of these points, when isolated, might sound like common hotel staff etiquette, but when delivered in one package, they came together to form some true...
Read moreCountry Inns and Suites Overall impression of Country Inns and Suites Wall Street Bowling Green Kentucky is, rundown and poorly managed. Made reservation through bookings.com. First of all, the sign taped to the front desk window said masks must be worn in the hotel lobby and open areas. However, the clerk and the several hotel staff members hanging around behind her were not wearing masks. At check in we were told they did not have the one bedroom king suite we had reserved through Bookings.com. The clerk said she could give us a single queen room instead. After some discussion, she stated the reason was not only could she not find our reservation but there were no one bedroom king suites available. However, this specific location charged our credit card just that morning. Finally, we agreed to take the single queen room. My wife asked if animals had been in the room recently and that we want a room animals don’t use. She said dogs are only allowed in the first floor rooms. We were given the key to room 213. When we opened the door, it was evident from the clothes on the bed and the two dogs barking in the bathroom that the room was occupied. Back to the desk for another round of back and forth finally to be given the key to a king suite on the 4th floor. When we questioned why she said originally no one bedroom king suites available and now there was one, we were told she finally did find our reservation and there was one available. When we opened the door to room 406 the very first thing we saw was a vinyl desk chair totally ripped across the top and on the seat with the padding exposed. Room looked ok but furniture was in poor condition. Cabinet unit with refrigerator and micro was also badly chipped and worn. This caused us to question and inspect the bed linens and mattress. Pulling back the sheet, there was evidence of insect wings and what looked like a cockroach leg. Pad underneath had spots and appeared soiled. Sheet and pillows themselves looked clean. Since it was already early evening, we didn’t think we would be able to get another hotel and were tired from driving 9 hours. We do have to extend kudos to the gal that managed the breakfast area. She was very friendly, efficient, and kept her area clean and...
Read moreWe kept in mind we were traveling at a less than desirable time with COVID and such going on, so we knew that understandably, most amenities were not available. Having said that, considering the circumstances, I asked for a bottle of their cleaner and a towel so that I could feel more comfortable and confident in the sanitation of the room, and they were unwilling to provide these items for us. I kept my fingers crossed that the room would just be super clean. Fat chance. The first room had hair in the tub, food smeared on the walls in the kitchenette, hand prints and other things smeared on the trim inside the bathroom, what appeared to be feces smeared on the toilet paper holder and stains all over the furniture as well as bedspreads. I politely asked to be moved to a different room as it appeared this room had not been cleaned for some time. The second room was at the complete other end of the hotel and while walking that way, I asked my husband if he saw smoking signs anywhere because it smelled strongly like we were in the smoking section of the hotel. Being super late and super tired from our driving, there were no stains on the bed and as a whole the room was at least cleaner than the first, so we ate our cold food, took showers with the low pressure, lukewarm water and immediately went to bed so as to be able to get back out of there as soon as possible. We had been told continental breakfast would be "Grab n Go," which completely makes sense, but it turned out to literally be boxes of Raisin Bran.
Substantially disappointed as this has been our go to place to stay in both Chicago and Denver and this Country Inn did not appear to hold the same standards, COVID or not. We also understand rates are lower than typical right now, and you may not have as much staff scheduled, but I've stayed in more dated hotels much cleaner and more accommodating than this. Having been in management at a couple of hotels, I would have expected my housekeeping team to be triple sure the rooms are up to par and at least clean, especially during these times!
On the bright side, the rooms are laid out well and would be...
