I decided to try this place based on some high praise from critics reviews and it did not disappoint. Had it not been for a few minor things this could have easily gotten 5 stars. Unfortunately, I can't give it 4.5 because that's how I really would prefer to rate it based on my experience today, but such is the struggle with google reviews.
This breakfast joint is characterized by its small location of only 12 tables and a breakfast bar. One of the drawbacks was there was a strange smell in the air like the place was dirty, but the good news is the food didn't share in the misfortune of producing an unpleasant odor. The quirky yet simple beachy decor with a number of references to hawaii was reminiscent of what you might see at an older lady's home, making it inviting in a way. I'm very picky about my java, so the coffee was only ok in my eyes. However it was much better than most diners I've come across. One of the main dishes I came for which is raved about online was the macadamia coconut crusted french toast. I enjoyed it very thoroughly, some of the highlights of the dish was that it had a nice smoky, nutty flavor and was soft and light on the inside while maintaining a slightly crispy outside. Their rye toast nice and thick and toasted perfectly. The cook forgot to add cheese on my grits but the waitress noticed and corrected immediately. I think the cheese grits needed a bit of salt to make the flavor pop, but otherwise were good. The other dish I decided on was the corned beef hash and it was spot on, not too salty, but was nice and flavorful and balanced between meat and potatoes. I highly recommend that as well. In my onion the portion sizes were just right, and the price was fair for what youare getting there. Another drawback was the service. I think it could have been better, but not at the fault of the waitress who was the only one serving all 12 tables, which for the most part, at least 8-10 were full the entire time I spent there. It would be a big bonus to staff more than one waitress so customers can get a little more personal experience and could be checked on more often, as the waitress was so busy she forgot about me several times, once to refill my coffee and another to bring a to go box for my french toast so I could leave.
All in all, I would highly recommend them for great breakfast fare at a reasonable price. I would definitely return to eat there...
Read moreI want to start by saying the two servers arenât bad. They were nice, obviously overwhelmed but thatâs ok.
After our wait we sat down and waited forever no silverware or menus (which I was ok with) after I asked for our menus and silverware we ordered shortly after! The food took FOREVER AND IT WAS COLD! we were starving and couldnât get the servers attention to save our lives so we just ate it! I found a short hair on my chicken sandwich plate! None of us have short hair and neither did the servers so clearly itâs from someone in the kitchen! It wasnât on the sandwich itself it was just on the plate so I wiped it off.
At this point Iâm beyond annoyed but being a server in the past I obviously know itâs not their fault and I couldnât even get napkins or coffee at a decent time so my complaint wouldâve left me there for probably another hour! . Finally we get the bill( that was the fastest part).
So I go to the bathroom to wash my hands because you know! No napkins and I slip on the wet floor between the bathroom and the kitchen! There was no wet floor sign! I already have a broken toe so this slip literally made me see stars! I wanted to flip out and I started crying! If they have cameras there they would see that I slipped! Anyway I didnât want to flip out on the servers so I paid, tipped and left! I was beyond understanding and patient!! Theyâre very lucky It was me and not someone else! Every table was silently complaining amongst themselves! Itâs really a shame! Whoever is responsible for this place needs to step up and get it...
Read moreIâm the type of person that likes to try family restaurant because Iâm a good old country woman that loves good food from the soul. Iâm from Royal Palm Beach and I was in Boynton Beach with my son and I didnât want commercial food that I normally eat and because I desired good wholesome food and I began to google restaurants near me but nothing I started driving and just as I mention to my friend look to see if she saw anything and she noticed Breakfast Shack and I pulled in the parking lot and she went to get a me a menu and she came out with hard copy no take out menu. I called to place the order and lady place me on hold and I could hear her greeting at least 3 people because they walked pass the car to go in after being on hold for 7 minuets. I went in to place my order the AC was out of order and she never acknowledged me at all and Iâm holding the menu and I have the phone to my ear not speaking to anyone just holding on for her to take my order and then she walked pass me several times and then told me Iâll be with you in 3 minuets or whenever you get off the phone I then showed her my phone that Iâve been on hold waiting for you to take my order for 15 minuets and I said Thank You and have a good day and I left and she goes behind the counter and hung-up the phone. I was very disappointed with that place and family & friends that know me when I recommend a Place is go to theyâll go and the only reason why they got 1 star âď¸ because it wouldnât let me leave a comment unless I rated them .BAD...
