We had a reservation for 6pm, (arrived at 6:07pm after calling ahead) and received water at 6:14pm.
We ordered drinks as the water came and they were delivered around 6:31pm. We were going to order our food for the evening as the server delivered them (sensing the significant delay was not going to improve), but she did not ask or give us a chance to.
I cannot speak on my partner's canned beer, but the specialty cocktail I ordered had two abnormally massive ice cubes in it that took up the majority of the glass and clinked into my face everytime I went to take a sip. Would have been less uncomfortable/unpleasant had the beverage been tasty/well balanced. Based on that beverage I would not recommend.
The real issue though...
We were only offered an opportunity to order at 6:42pm.
This is after 2 other tables had either ordered and/or been served their food - 1 of which had arrived after us.
The dining room had a decent number of tables in it, but it was not overly crowded or busy. I don't know if this server was newer, easily overwhelmed by 6 tops, or just poorly trained/organized. They were not maximizing their steps at all and it felt as though we were inconveniencing them. I have been a server for 7yrs in various settings from bar/family restaurant to french gourmet and a country club with big events/regular dining service. I get we sometimes have bad days, or we're understaffed, or hit with a dinner rush, etc.
...but this wasn't that.
There is no reason to pass a table 6 times and not grab an order on a piece of paper and enter it in at the same time as another table at the POS.
If the server was indeed overwhelmed with the way things are run, then it is up to managment to prioritize competent and effective staffing.
I found it particularly strange that there was a bartender with a practically empty bar and a manager/host at the front not assisting the one server who appeared to be in charge of taking guests' orders as well as running food and drinks - only supported occasionally by one of the kitchen staff popping out to random tables.
When we asked for the check at 6:42pm, it was promptly delivered 2min later by our server. When it was returned for a signature by the host/manager, he only addressed my partner (paying/male/introvert who hates confrontation) "is everything alright?" who quickly replied "we're okay...we're just ready to go."
This seemed satisfactory to the manager, but anyone with even a little service experience should know that this was definitely not "okay."
While I do wish I had inserted myself into their interaction in the moment, I did not want to make it uncomfortable for the server or other guests (it's a bit echoey/not good for private conversations in the main dining space), and at that point I was well frustrated, hungry, and more concerned with where we were going to go without a dinner reservation at 7pm on a Thursday, as we didn't want to risk waiting another 30min for food to arrive and be further disappointed.
I would not recommend going here unless you have a solid backup plan. Based on some of the other reviews and this experience we had here, just know if you go, you're probably...
Read moreI’ve had the pleasure of working with A Vermont Table on multiple events, and they have been absolutely wonderful to partner with from planning to production. Their professionalism, attention to detail, and exceptional service make them a standout in the industry.
At a local venue, they delivered a stunning and delicious buffet, along with seamless bar service that elevated the entire event. Their presentation was beautiful, and the food was a huge hit with the guests.
I also had the opportunity to work with them on a private property wedding where they crafted a completely gluten-free and celiac-friendly plated meal for our clients. The care and creativity they brought to this specialized menu were outstanding, and the food was not only safe for all guests but also truly amazing.
Their team consistently provides top-notch service, ensuring every detail is handled with precision and care. Whether it’s a buffet or a plated dinner, they bring the same level of excellence and dedication.
I would love the opportunity to work with A Vermont Table again. Their professionalism, talent, and delicious food make them an incredible asset to any event....
Read moreWe had an amazing brunch this morning! I moved to Brattleboro a year ago from Denver, where brunch is a competitive, weekly event, so my standard is pretty high…this place exceeded the standard! The restaurant itself is a vibe, a good balance of cozy and posh. The brunch cocktails were not only delicious, but beautiful too. I was so happy to see a michalada on the brunch cocktail menu (rare occurrence in these parts.) Bloody Mary was fresh, and perfectly liquored. Irish coffee was beautiful in a glass mug, and had what appeared to be freshly made whipped cream on top. Our main courses: pork belly egg Benedict which was amazing with a lemon forward hollandaise, (which in my opinion is how it should be) and the braised beef brisket was so good my hubby ate it too quickly for me to get a taste. The side scrambled egg I ordered for our 1 yr old, was even elevated as it looked more like a perfectly folded plain omelet. Super impressed, so excited this place is setting the bar for brunch in Bratt! Now I need to try...
