IKKO review.
I attended ikko on April 2, 2018 and this is my review. I came into ikko with my partner on a Monday evening about 5, I was immediately welcomed by the manager and sat in a booth near the middle of the restaurant. The decor inside of ikko was very modern and welcoming with the low lighting that set the mood wonderfully.
We started off our meal with a thunder and a rainbow roll, the thunder roll was a wonderful mix of asparagus, Panko breadcrumbs, and a wonderful cut of tuna. The rainbow roll was a beautiful blend of red and white tuna with salmon. The fish was a melt in your mouth soft and the rice was cooked to perfection.
We next ordered a box meal, which consisted of a teriyaki meat, shrimp tempura, tempura fried vegetables, fresh sashimi, a bed of white rice and incredibly soft shrimp shumi. The shrimp tempura was perfectly cooked with a beautiful golden fry and a delicious shrimp within. The teriyaki chicken was scrumptious, with a absolutely delish hearty sauce served alongside it was a masterpiece. The tempura fried vegetables were a pleasant surprise as they weren’t listed to come with the box but they were most definitely welcomed! It was a mix of sweet potato, eggplant, pepper and zucchini that were rivaled by few other fries I have experienced. The cuts of sashimi were absolutely astounding as well, with a texture and subtle butteriness that just melted in your mouth. It was easily some of the best fish I had ever eaten. Even the bed of white rice that was served alongside the meal was cooked to perfection, most definitely a hats off to the sushi chefs.
We finished off our meal with mochi, I ordered coconut and my partner ordered the green tea. It was such a beautiful and succulent finisher to a knock out meal.

Read moreI recently dined at Ikko Japanese Steakhouse and had a delightful experience from start to finish. The moment I stepped inside, the restaurant’s warm lighting and modern yet inviting decor set the tone for a pleasant evening. The staff was friendly, greeting me right away and making sure my party was comfortably seated.
The hibachi experience was the highlight of the night. Our chef was entertaining and skillful, expertly handling the sizzling grill while engaging everyone around the table. The food itself was delicious — the steak was cooked to a perfect medium-rare, the seafood was fresh and flavorful, and the vegetables were crisp with just the right amount of seasoning. I also tried a couple of sushi rolls; they were beautifully presented and the fish tasted very fresh.
While the ambiance and quality of the dishes were top-notch, our meal did take slightly longer than expected to arrive, particularly the sushi. However, the staff was attentive in refilling drinks and checking in on us, which helped make the wait more comfortable.
Overall, Ikko Japanese Steakhouse offers a memorable dining experience with tasty hibachi, fresh sushi, and a welcoming atmosphere. I’m giving it four stars because there’s just a bit of room for improvement in service speed, but I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it for a fun night out or...

Their sushi is fresh and the quality of the rice is consistently uniform on a roll. Their rolls are also twice the size of Toki in Red Bank for the same price. The miso soup actually taste like there’s miso in it. The mussels appetizers is amazing.
Poor roll making shows up when the seaweed shows through the sushi rice. Commonly found at inferior places like Toki. Taka is a better sushi place in Red Bank who employs a Japanese trained sushi chef who used to work in NYC.
Most people believe that anyone can make a sushi roll but if you research the training involved in Japan to become a sushi chef, it’s more involved that requires years of training and it’s an art.
The teriyaki salmon dinner is not recommended because it’s over cooked. The sushi place in Shrewsbury, Kanji has an awesome lunch bento box that makes perfect teriyaki salmon.
I haven’t tried the Hibachi grill but it’s constantly packed with people so it’s obviously popular.
I’m not a fan of paying for overpriced fried rice with a show. Make it at home. The secret to fluffy fried rice is refrigerate cooked rice overnight and then place it on a sheet pan the next day and fluff it. This ensures that the grains are separated and you won’t end up with...
