First visit: The food tasted great although my entree came out before my appetizer by only a few minutes and was cold by the time I got to try it. I don’t know if the issue was the kitchen or the waitress but she didn’t seem phased by the timing. No apology or offer for compensation and who wants to be the one to ask for either of those things? I might try it again since the food was delicious, even cold.
Second visit: I decided to try Cody’s again as the food was very good. I hoped the previous experience was a fluke.
It was very cold that day so thankfully I had my coat on. It never came off as the air conditioning was blasting.
I ordered an unpriced sangria which turned out to be $11 and was completely full of ice. It was probably less than half a glass of sangria without the ice.
The table ordered two appetizers. I intentionally held off ordering our entree for about 10 minutes to ensure the entree wouldn’t come first again. About a minute after the appetizers came out so did our entrees. So we had to strategically decide which dishes would still taste good cold.
My entree was rice based. The rice was significantly under cooked. I HATE complaining. I hate risking whatever may happen to my food after a returned dish. Not to mention it’s embarrassing. I noticed another table’s entree being sent back so I said something to my waitress. She left and came back saying she was going to take $3 off my bill. Insulting.
I don’t go to restaurants simply to get great tasting food but for the entire experience. It’s a social event, someone tends to your needs, you don’t have to do anything other than eat great food. That’s the reason for the premium price. Most people can make great tasting food at home.
This paragraph is for Cody’s. I make at least one trip to Charleston a month. EVERY single time I have been to Ristorante Abruzzi, I have had nothing but amazing service and equally impressive food. This weekend I went with a group of friends. Our appetizers came out fast. Our entrées didn’t come out until we had finished our appetizers and they were cleared from the table.
Someone’s food was going to take slightly longer than expected, the waitress informed us, apologized, and said the entree would be free. No one had to complain, not that we would have for a slightly longer wait. This is how good customer service should be.
We walked away feeling like we had the best time, a great experience, and can’t...
Read moreI'm torn on the rating for this place. I went for a lunch date today and ordered a power bowl with rice noodles, crispy tofu, and the aioli and sweet Thai chili sauce. The noodles were stuck together making it difficult to eat, the tofu was breaded and completely melted inside (more like breaded cream cheese than tofu), and the sauces were pretty good... But they don't seem appropriate for the "build a bowl" menu. The noodles had a weird taste. I've had tofu a lot in Asian dishes (and I have cooked with it), but I've never had "tofu" like this. I'm not vegan or vegetarian, but I really like tofu and it's hard to find a place that serves it here. Like I said, it was creamy and melting on the inside and breaded. Fried tofu is normally kinda spongy. Plus both of our sauces were served separately. I had two small dishes for mine, and my husband had a largish bowl for his.
My husband got the ahi tuna, rice, and Thai curry. He loved it. So I think it might have just been my choices. Maybe it was a bad decision to mix those together. I don't know. But I didn't like it. I hate to say that. Shoulders are at my ears, feeling really terrible for admitting it.
The service was fine. No complaints. It seemed like the owner or chef (or both) was interacting with the diners and seemed familiar with them. I love seeing stuff like this. I'm definitely going to try it again, because I feel like it might have been a bad choice on my part. I really hate giving less than 5 stars when I rate on here, but I didn't see any other mentions of it. Just wanted to share...
Read more8 mos pregnant, having adverse reaction to red meat. Asked for the pub burger, substituting beef patty for chicken. Server had no issue with the the request. Bill came, $16 dollar pub burger with an added cost of $9 dollars for the chicken. The sandwich totaled $25 dollars. I asked if this was a mistake, the answer was no because it was during “rush time.” I said I was never notified or imagined it would cost 9 more dollars to get chicken INSTEAD of beef on my sandwich. I asked to speak with the manager. I explained to her we had been very patient waiting for our meals that came out 10 to 15 minutes a part from the other members at our table (4 top). We had been there for over 1.5 hrs at this point. After an extremely long wait and being charged $25 dollars for a sandwich, could something be done? The answer, “no.” The manager said it’s because “we waited to order after a 10 top.” Long story short, we have eaten at Cody’s many of times. It’s unfortunate that the servers became so rude and defensive. A discount, an apology, or just a better attitude about the whole situation would have been greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, we will not be back after it was a place we have chosen to go to many weekend nights with friends.
*By the way, this is first restaurant review I have ever written. Being a local and a frequenter at this restaurant, I am just stunned in the way the servers conducted...
