Will not be returning. I used to like this place. After 2 years away, I moved back to Atlanta, and during my unpacking, I had a craving for Mexican, and stopped into Pancho's to grab a meal to go. I ordered my typical dish, a Burrito with no meat (just beans and rice inside), with a bit or cheese sauce on top. I also ordered a side of Mole. The standard price for the burrito is 12.55. My check was 21.48. I inquired as to what the extra 8.25 was for. The manager brought over an itemized receipt. They charged 3.00 for the Mole, which is fine, no problem there. 2.75 for cheese dip, which is more than I'd expect for a small amount of cheese sauce (and certainly more than I've ever paid elsewhere), but I can deal with that. The kicker was 2.50 for rice. This charge I didn't understand, as rice is much cheaper than meat (Most Mexican restaurants reduce the price of my burrito when I ask for no meat -- not all, but most). I asked the manager what comes in a burrito, as every burrito I've ever ordered typically comes with meat, cheese, beans, and rice, at a minimum. He said meat and cheese. I said, "So if I order a burrito..." and he completed my sentence by saying, "You get a bunch of meat and some cheese." I said, "So I'm paying 2.50 for rice?" He confirmed. I didn't argue the fact that I can't imagine that rice is so much more expensive than meat that you would not only charge the full meat price, but add an additional 2.50 for rice. I left and drove home, which is less than a mile away from the restaurant. I ate immediately, as I was starving. The burrito was so wet and soggy, it was literally falling apart when trying to scoop it with a fork, and the look and texture made it very unappealing. AND, they forgot the cheese sauce that I paid 2.75 to have added to it. In addition, there was absolutely no flavor to the food. Probably the most disappointing meal I've had I've a really long time. I won't...
Read morePancho’s is a Tex-Mex restaurant that has been a part of Buford Highway for over thirty years. The restaurant is well known for its tequila offerings and margaritas, particularly the 48-ounce Monster margarita.
I ordered the Skinny Rita, Chicken Soup, and Texas Fajitas. My meal came out within an appropriate timeframe and I received good service.
Pancho’s has been recognized by the AJC for its chicken soup. The soup is so comforting, with a nice hint of spice and seasoning. In addition to chicken, the soup contains cilantro, jalapeño, tomatoes, onions, rice (only a little), and avocado and is served with a lime wedge.
The Texas Fajitas is a sizzling combination of chicken, steak, and shrimp with an assortment of vegetables (red and green peppers, onions, mushrooms, and broccoli (yes, broccoli). The shrimp was the protein highlight - the chicken and steak could have used a little more seasoning. I also felt that the vegetables could have used more consistent char and seasoning.
The fajitas come with rice, beans (refried is standard, black beans is an upcharge), tortillas (corn or flour), pico de gallo, sour cream, and guacamole. If you are a lover of sour cream and guacamole, ask for extra to ensure you have enough. The beans and the pico de gallo/sour cream/guacamole come in tortilla cups that are not crisp enough to enjoy. The rice and beans are solid but not memorable.
Portion sizes are impressive, including the soup. I would definitely return for weekday lunch (11am-3pm) and happy hour (3-6pm) specials, margaritas, soup, and their tequila...
Read moreFirst time going even though I live about 5 min walk from there... I finally found the time to visit and must say definitely don't judge a book by it's cover or in this case a restaurant by it's appearance. The inside atmosphere was laid back and surprising. As far as I could tell the place was following Covid guidelines and would only sit people every other table as well as all employee's has face coverings so that was reassuring! Now day's it's hard to even find a place that doesn't just do take out or to go orders these days with the pandemic and everything. I was a little shocked at some of the menu prices. I ordered the chimichanga with rice and one beef taco as well as enchiladas and was shocked by the plate sizes so you get your money's worth just lacking a little flavor in the chimichanga and enchilada had crazy amount of lettuce on top but once removed my girlfriend said it was okay. I must say the cheese sauce and salsa with chips for appetizer was AMAZING! The service or perhaps just my server was busy but barely came and checked on us so we had to wait for refills for 10 mins on our drink after our meals were delivered. Other than that the...
