11/23/2020: REVISED: I've revised this review from one star to five stars. If you have the patience, please read the whole thing.
11/20/2020: (First review, one star) If you're reading this review to see if you'd like to be a new customer of DD's, you might want to find another pizza parlor. Apparently DD's has enough customers and isn't interested in gaining and maintaining new ones.
Decided to stop ordering weekly delivery from Dominoes and Pizza Hut and find a local pizzeria to support instead. With all the COVID crisis going on, we're avoiding eating out and order delivery once a week. I was excited when I saw their brochure in my mailbox yesterday, and decided to give them a try.
Setting up an account and ordering online was easy. We love leftover pizza, so I ordered three larges. It was super expensive, beyond my weekly budget, but I figured it would be a great way to end a really hard week at work. Even though I was picking it up curbside, I added a nice tip, and showed up on time to pick it up.
The pizza was hot and ready when I got there, and they brought it right out to my car. I got home, and found that the one pie I'd ordered as a thin crust was not a thin crust. I'd also added ricotta cheese on one of my pizzas, it wasn't on there either. I called, thinking I'd nicely let them know, and maybe I'd get a coupon for future use since I'd just dropped nearly 100$ on pizza.
I told the guy that answered the phone about my crust being wrong, he said, "oh, well we're really busy." I kindly asked if perhaps I could get a coupon or something, and he told me to call back another time because they're busy. I kindly asked to speak to the manager, who I was told was Ken. The guy told me sure, but I was going to have to wait for a quite a while, because Ken was busy. I assure you, I wasn't being bi&$%y or sarcastic. So, I kindly told the guy that they're obviously too busy to care for a new customer, and that I wouldn't bother them further by calling back.
The pizza was okay; the meats and cheese were good quality. The crust was a good texture/chewiness, but a really sour sour-dough. Good sized slices. Too bad they're too busy to get an order right, or try to make a poor order right. You can have quality ingredients, but if you don't have quality in making orders correctly or in customer service, you're not going to get programmed into my phone.
11/23/2020: UPDATE. Owner Ted of DD's pizza called me the day following my review, he wanted to explain to me the circumstances at DD's pizza the night before, and I gave him the opportunity.
It ends up that they were very short staffed that night, as they had 3 employees that were either sick or asked to stay home due to precautionary COVID-19 quarantine risks. Second, the person that answered the phone is an employee that is valued for their work in the kitchen, but is not a person that they would normally ask to interact with customers in any way - as he's not the most adept at social skills. Because of the sudden loss of 3 employees that evening, he had to answer the phone. (Note, this person was not rude to me on the phone, he simply didn't handle my call with what I would see as appropriate customer service).
It was clear to me when I was talking with Ted that he cares a lot about his employees. It's also clear that he is taking COVID-19 health precautions seriously as a business that interacts with the public. It wasn't an excuse, it was just the reality of the evening.
This ends up one of those situations that not only changes my opinion, but earns my respect as a community member and a patron, and I'm actually glad that I had the initially negative experience, in order to have better understanding and appreciation of DD's pizza. I hope that you readers find the pizza delicious, but also know that you are supporting an ethical, kind business owner that cares about their employees and YOUR health.
Five Stars, programmed in my phone, and although I didn't ask for it, Ted generously offered me a gift...
Read moreTwice now my husband and I have had horrible customer service experiences here. We will not be returning for this over priced pizza. Our first bad experience was with a call-in take out order. My husband called in 2 pizzas about 45 minutes before close. They take the order and say it should be ready in about 30 minutes. We get there with about 20 minutes left before close and the pizzas aren't ready yet, which is fine because we got there early and we're fine with waiting. We sit there until about 3 minutes to close and one of the kids walks out and tells us only 1 pizza is ready. He gives us the option of waiting longer or getting a refund. We tell him we would like to wait a little longer and get our second pizza and he then says they can't do that because they close in 2 minutes so he will just refund the 2nd pizza. He was short and rude with us we walked out with half of our order due to poor planning. This was a month or so ago. Last night we decide to give it another shot. My parents were in town and we wanted to grab a quick bite to eat before checking out the fireworks. I call ahead and confirm they are open because it's a holiday, and the guy on the phone confirms that they are open, and advises that dine in closes at 9, and take out at ten. We get to the restaurant at 820 and are then quickly informed at the door that they aren't allowing any more dine in because they are short staffed and some of the staff will soon be leaving. This is frustrating because I was told 9 on the phone but whatever, it's fine we will just get it to go. We order, and my husband and I go to grab us some drinks elsewhere while my parents wait for the food. When my husband and I get back we walk in to see that the family of 4 who were sitting at an empty table when we got there have a fresh pizza sitting right in front of them. Well, I think, maybe they had been waiting a while before we ever got there. Then, I see that the table of 2 girls who walked in maybe 30 seconds before us are sitting down being served pizza salad and beer! AND another table of two, who may parents confirmed arrived after we did, appeared to also be getting served dine in! We didn't say anything and left with our to go food because we obviously weren't welcome. This experience was insulting and unprofessional, and this description is only a glimpse into how bad this was. Again, we will never visit here or order from here again. The pizza is over priced anyways, so we won't be missing anything.
Edit: my husband and I spoke about this again and we feel as though we were discriminated against based on race. I do not say this lightly as we have spoken about it at length. I cannot think of another reason we were denied dine in service while others who arrived at the same time or...
Read moreThis was our fourth time eating at DD's. The previous three times had all been great due to the awesome work by who was presumably the owner, the very nice lady in her 30's/40's, or she might have been a super-manager. However, this time at DD's we came in at around 5:30pm, when no one else was in the restaurant. There were four people working and it took us 10 minutes to get our beers after we placed the drink order. I ordered a happy hour olidunks, which is listed as a 4 piece, but got the 8 piece and was charged full price for that. The pizza was still great as always, I'll give them that. When our checks came, the pints of beer we ordered showed as full price when the pints are Monday are advertised for $5. Regardless, we were trying to use the free drink coupons we were graciously given the previous times we had eaten there. Nowhere on the coupons does it say anything about using it during happy hour on specials. The waitress, under guidance from the manager on duty, told us that we couldn't use these coupons during happy hour (after they tried to charge us for non-happy hour/special beer prices). Let me ask, what better would it be for us to use these coupons during regular price hours versus using it during happy/special hours? An $8.50 pint with a coupon is free but since its $5 Mondays, the coupons are rendered void? Either way we should have been able to use the coupon. I apologize to our 2nd waitress, who was only working her 2nd day, but it's not her fault as her coworkers were also slow to help this poor girl out. My friends and I were disappointed with this experience as DD's was a place that we had previously enjoyed and counted on for the great...
