We love visiting mom and pop restaurants, especially when we travel. There weren't many to choose from that sold breakfast all day, we got there around noon for breakfast. Maggie Mae's certainly has the feel of a small town diner with the friendly service and a lot of locals eating there (police, firemen, city hall workers and citizens). Maggie herself was working and stopped by to make sure our food met our expectations and we had all we need. The service was great and each server made us feel like we belonged there.
The food was great and all we expected. We got it fairly quick considering how busy it got and only 2 cooks. It was hot and tasty. I really liked my loaded home fries. Not necessarily a bad thing but everything was served in/on disposable plates/cups, except for the coffee cup. The city water tastes somewhat like ocean water but it was tolerable if you're thirsty.
My only suggestion would be (certainly wouldn't prevent me from visiting again if I come through town again) to hang some pics/decor on the walls, they were all plain white. I would also get some cozier feeling seating (tables & chairs). The place lacked character bc of its simplicity. Most tables were 6 tops so some folks shared tables with other small parties,...
Read moreThis is the worst experience I have had. Myself and my daughter that's 11 and son who is 9 went in the to eat. We sat for 15 min and was never welcomed or Acknowledge. We was only ignored looked at by the waitress like we was nothing not worth her time or my money because we wasn't a regular. I called to tell the manager what happened only to find out they're didn't care it happened or at least apologize. I was just informed the waitress was the owner and hung the phone up on me after she called me a liar and that we was never there. That shows she never intended to serve us as an outsider to her establishment. I wouldn't even give this place 1 star. They didn't deserve my money or my time. However, Daddy Cates is the place that welcomes everyone and deserves all the business. Spend your money with any other small Cafe but this poor excuse...
Read moreI stumbled upon this place last week when I typed in “best lunch in Brunswick”. It is my new favorite breakfast and lunch spot. I ordered the breakfast biscuit and it was so good. They were out of grits that day so I had some when I came back a few days later and they were also great. That day I ordered the hash-brown dish with one egg, sausage and cheese. It was perfection. Today I had the pancakes and they did not disappoint. I also tried the Philly and it was a little on the small side but packed with flavor. The side of potato salad was some of the best restaurant potato salad I have ever had. All this great food and the service and prices can’t be beat.
If you’re in the area and you don’t eat here, you’re...
