It was Friday and I didn't want to cook. This is a great place for Japanese comfort foods.
Today, we ordered the following for family style take-out dinner:
Hamburger Bento - Comes with steamed rice, cooked veggies - japanese style which includes taro, carrots, lotus, shitake mushroom, bamboo. seaweed. potato salad. and egg - japanese style sweet rolled omelet. The hamburger is grilled and smells just like a summer backyard barbecue. Love having this with katsu sauce. mmmmm.
Fried Fish Bento - same as above but with fried fish. 3 nice pieces. Also includes tarter sauce. It's so crunchy but gentle to your upper palate. Delish.
Karaage - 15 pieces of fried chicken pieces. Love! I like dipping mine in katsu sauce. Adds just enough umami.
Sides: Cooked Veggies - cannot get enough of this so need more!
Kinpira - braised burdock root (gobo, in japanese) It goes very well with some rice.
Fried Shishito Peppers - pair this with some biiru (beer, in japanese) for pre-dinner happy hour. This is like playing Shishito Roulette. You cannot tell which pepper is HOT!
Service is nice and polite.
Timing is perfect. I ordered online for after 6:15 pick up. I got there just before that and had to wait just a couple minutes for one more dish. Food was still nice and warm when I got home.
Wear your masks please. We all need to do our part and keep these businesses safe and running. Remember we need Bento as much as Bento needs us.
Keep safe and...
Read moreWe LOVE this place. This is our go-to restaurant after I get my hair done every 4-6 months, so we consider it a delightful treat.
Because of COVID we normally get take out and then depending on how long my hair apt was we'll either eat in the car or we drive about a mile and eat in this really cute little park where we've been fortunate enough to not come into contact with too many others.
They're in a very small plaza with another Asian restaurant and a 7-11. It's right on the corner of a pretty busy intersection, but well worth it! Parking hasn't really been an issue for us but I imagine in normal times it can be.
We always get the chicken katsu and the chicken katsu in sandwich form. Both are so juicy and oozing with flavor! The katsu is always crispy and the sandwich is the perfect portion for someone who doesn't have a huge appetite (like myself). Portions are great though for the entrees and it's pretty inexpensive.
Customer service has always been good, nothing exceptional or terrible, but nice individuals who get our order in and made quickly.
Certainly worth the stop for delicious japanese food if you're ever...
Read moreThis is an "everyday Japanese cuisine" restaurant, located in south Buena Park, at the intersection of Valley View and Cerritos. It's fairly authentic (I would know because my wife is Japanese and, incidentally, so is one of the owners of this place). It's a small place, and even though it has a few tables, it mostly caters to take-out customers.
My wife ordered the mackerel, and she liked it. She said it was good, but not the best she's ever had. Still, good and properly cooked with the right ingredients. She would give it 4 1/2 stars.
I had the Katsudon (pork cutlet bowl), and while it was authentic, it was also too salty, in my humble opinion (too much soy sauce, maybe?). So, I'd give it 3 1/2 stars. Averaging out my rating and my wife's, I've decided to give this place 4 stars.
