Risa's Deli & Catering — Restaurant in Buffalo

I have been on the hunt for a good pastrami sandwich in buffalo for what feels like, and haven't had much luck finding a that had one, let alone a good one. Risa's has knocked that craving out of the park.

I had lunch combo, a bowl of matzo ball soup and the half a pastrami sandwich. I would be hard pressed to find a better, more stratifying lunch deal for as good of a price pretty much anywhere. I cannot recommend it as a lunch spot highly enough. Classics done simple and done right.

I also tried the lemon bar and the peanut butter bar. The lemon bar is perfectly serviceable, I have no complaints even if it's nothing special. That peanut butter bar thought? Man that thing was so so good. Huge and rich too, I'm glad I was splitting it.

My friend and I were making plans to come back and what we would try next before we even finished eating. I wish i'd taken a picture but it was so good I was halfway finished before I even...

Great mahtzo ball soup WITH noodles too. The pastrami was tender, the rye bread was fresh. Speedy table service from friendly staff.

I'm definitely going to go back to try the Reuben next time.

....................UPDATE ON THE REUBEN.................

This was a Reuben sandwich on rye. It was perfectly grilled and the filling was of beautifully thinly sliced corned beef and there was a generous amount of it. This was well balanced with just the right amount of sauerkraut and the perfect amount or Russian dressing. Here is a sandwich made by someone who has made many of these gems.

Also, I had a chocolate egg cream and it arrived with a beautiful frothy head on it and was well balanced; chocolatey and fuzzy perfection.

Of course, I started lunch with yet another amazing bowl of matzo ball soup.

This place is a hidden. For Buffalo , real kosher style deli food is pretty much extinct. This is the last standing with a lineage of an old kosher deli called Stumpy's deli on hertel. Risa has carried on her grandfather Stumpy's tradition. This is one of the only place is actually pickling and brining their own corned beef and pastrami with a very old traditional recipe. I wish more people knew about this place and give them the business as it is truly underappreciated.
