Thank you for acknowledging my bad experience at your restaurant. However, based on your response, it is seems that you're not Peruvian and perhaps this is the reason why your don't know about authentic Peruvian recipes. There's nothing wrong fusing recipes from different countries. In fact, based on other good reviews, it seems that your recipes are tasty for other people. I believe it is an unethical business practice to deceive your consumers, advertising that your restaurant serves authentic Peruvian food, when it didn't for me. At least the empanadas were not close to be aunthentic. However, I will give you the benefit of doubt, by trying your food again on my next visit to California. I will make sure to bring a few other Peruvians friends so we could order multiple different plates. If we determined that it was authentic, even if it wasn't tasty enough, we'll post a review and support your business. If not, well, will let the Manager know and hopefully we won't be charge for something we would barely eat right ?
My husband picked this restaurant because of the high rank "reviews" . The place is nice but I was extremely disappointed with the food. The empanadas are definitely NOT Peruvian style. Peruvian Empanadas are baked, never fried, we use different spices than other countries so there's no comparison with what they served us. The ceviche was somewhat acceptable but still lacked of the Peruvian flavor. Roasted Chicken had a very poor presentation. It was burned, dried and poorly seasoned. My conclusion is that this in Not a Peruvian food restaurant. The food might taste good for someone who is not Peruvian, or never tried the real Peruvian food. It annoys me when a typical plate is misrepresented. So if you aren't Peruvian and didn't like the food here, please know this is Not how Peruvian food is like. On my next visit to California, I'll try a...
Read moreMy partner and I came in on a Sunday night dinner and it was good. Parking wasn't so bad (or maybe we were just lucky) because we easily found parking behind the restaurant. We didn't have any reservations but the hostess was able to seat us right away. The restaurant was almost packed and was so loud that my partner and I had to yell at each other. We started with the Trio Granador Ceviche. The ceviche was served in three bowls sitting on ice. I had to admit, I couldn't tell which was which but one was spicy, one was a little more sour and one was more savory. All of them were very good and the seafood that they used seemed fresh. The taro chips that it came with made it better! Yum! Our other appetizer was Jalea which was all large fried shrimp. I thought that it would be a mix of another fish, calamari, and fries, but they were all shrimp. Good thing that I love shrimp and I devoured it! It was fried perfectly (not dry and chewy!), the shrimp were large and the aioli complimented the dish. Yum yum yum. For our entrees, my partner ordered the Lomo Saltado and I got the Arroz con Mariscos. The Lomo Saltado was excellent. It was not too salty and the meat was tender. My order came in on a large paella pan with a good variety of seafood arranged and scattered evenly. It was delicious and was seasoned well. All our meals came in large portions that we were too stuffed for dessert. :( Even if the food came in slow and the place was loud (not completely their fault), I would come back again! All the servers were nice and checked on us often. Our empty plates were taken away quickly and my water was always filled without me asking. I loved the taste of everything we ordered and I still need to try try desserts! I can't wait to taste their...
Read moreThis review comes with a bit of a sigh. I had been to Limon a few years ago and wasn't overly impressed, but my friend was craving Peruvian food, so we decided to give it another shot.
Limon's location in downtown Burlingame is bustling, with ample indoor and outdoor seating. Keep in mind, though, you'll be dining across from the Caltrain tracks, so be prepared for the occasional loud train horn. We opted for indoor seating, which unfortunately felt like a bit of a mistake. While the abundance of seating offers flexibility, it creates a somewhat cramped feel. Our table, positioned close behind another group, made conversation difficult. To make matters worse, there wasn't enough space to pull our chairs back comfortably.
The service was just average. We found ourselves having to flag down our server for refills and even simple requests like a spoon.
We tried the empanada sampler, polli papas, and Inca Kola. The empanada sampler, which included chicken, beef, cheese, and veggie fillings, was a bit of a letdown. Each empanada was bland and lacked flavor, with the veggie option being the only somewhat decent one.
The polli papas was an even bigger disappointment. The chicken was dry and flavorless, the fries were bland and unseasoned, and the potatoes were starchy. The whole dish desperately needed more sauce to salvage it.
It's worth noting that Limon offers a happy hour from 3-6 p.m., Monday through Friday. During that time, you can get discounts on select food items ($3 off), including the empanada sampler we tried, along with drinks ($2 off) like sangria, margaritas, and beers.
Overall, this second visit to Limon wasn't a success. The food was underwhelming, the service inattentive, and the crowded atmosphere left much...
