The food is great here. However, if you are ever allergic to anything... they make sure to list all ingredients in a dish and leave a couple out. Myself being allergic to numerous food items, I will read every ingredient if listed. If the ingredients or only one or two are listed, I will then ask what else is in that dish. I am not the person that will "bring a card of my allergies" to dinner for the server to read over. The item that I decided to order had over ten different ingredients listed. The normal person would assume all the ingredients were listed at that point. However, Asiana Noodle Shop decided to leave out one important ingredient that I am allergic to. I did not want to make a big deal of the situation and I removed this item from the dish. I am not deathly allergic to the item so I still ate the fish that was touched by the item. My throat got a little itchy and I decided not to finish the dish as I did not want to play with "fire". At this point I was not upset about my experience nor did I really care that they had forgot to put that one ingredient on the menu. Although, I did want to bring the situation up with the server to inform them for others that the item was the only one missing on the list of ingredients for the dish. She turned the situation around almost instantly on me and did not apologize once to me. She stated that all their dishes come with cucumbers and that I needed to list my allegories as soon as I sat down at the table. (Weird that every dish comes with cucumbers, but not one menu page stated that anything had cucumbers on it) I explained to her that I was not upset and that I only wanted to inform her about the menu situation. She then explained to me that some dishes don't even have ingredients listed. I then explained to her "yes, but when you list ten ingredients on an item, you should list all eleven". She should no remorse and was attempting to educate me on how a restaurant works. My family has been running a well-known restaurant for forty years and I have worked their for six years during my childhood. I think I know how restaurants work, but nevertheless I still told her "I am not upset about it, I just want to inform you." By far this was the worst server to customer experience I have ever experienced or even seen in the restaurant business and I have seen some pretty bad things over the years.
To conclude: Fix your menus...
Read morePerfection! Today was the first day I was able to dine in at this lovely establishment. Some of my friends recommended me this restaurant when I first moved here last September after ranting about how disappointed I was with Gaku Ramen. For a while now, I have gravitated towards Japanese and Korean culture, and found myself invested in their foods as well as the history. It’s been a while since I have had food as authentic as Asiana noodle shop anywhere in New England. The closest I’ve gotten to this level of authenticity was when I was last in New York City over a year ago to visit my brother in K-Town.
Typically I order the Katsu Curry, which is a Japanese comfort food that is probably my favorite meal of all time. Though, I have mostly gotten that through takeout. Today, I ordered tteokbokki (spicy Korean rice cakes) and Korean BBQ ribs over rice. They informed me that they were out of traditional tteokbokki rice cakes, but made an exception by using the flatter version. I was honestly okay with this for a few reasons. Gaku ramen was out of most everything every time I went, so this is as beyond exceptional service and I couldn’t have been happier. The second reason was that I hadn’t had tteokbokki in a long time (last time I had it, I made it myself using ingredients from hmart), so my standards weren’t extremely high to begin with. While they were not the best, I was happy that they could whip up what they could, and I would happily order it again if they have the true longer rice cakes in the future!
The Korean short ribs were delicious! Back in my home town of Newburyport, a local shop provides freshly made Korean short ribs that my father would BBQ in the summer. Sadly, I am not home this summer, so I really missed this dish. I was blown away with how delicious the short ribs are at asiana! I will absolutely be ordering them again, if not as an entree, than as an appetizer portion!
I would also like to mention that the staff are exceptionally well mannered and friendly! It’s always super enjoyable. The environment has quite the character too, and the place is a hidden gem for sure! It’s super easy to walk past this place on church street! I highly recommend...
Read moreArriving at this Church Street Marketplace restaurant for a late night craving for ramen, I was pleased to see it was busy, usually a good sign that the food is good. The menu has some descriptions of dishes but not all, and does not include any photos. Ramen dishes are $12.00 - $18.00 which is pretty pricey, ok for me if its great ramen. I ordered an edamame appetizer which was awful, tasted like it had been microwaved hours before serving and was barely warmed. I ordered the Japanese miso ramen with scallops which had no description. I was looking forward to a bowl of fresh ramen, with fresh noodles, a miso base, an egg, fresh greens and some protein. What I got was a bowl of ramen that tasted like the packaged cheap dried versions you can get anywhere for $2.99 or less. There were three pieces of chewy stringy mustard greens without any tender tops, no egg, a few doughy fishballs, and s few pieces of scallop. The miso base was not silky or flavorful and was heavily salted. Hardly palatable. My dining companion had a “build your own ramen” option and said it was barely ok. It was a warm summer evening and there were no iced tea options on the menu. I was craving mugicha, a popular summer Japanese barley tea or any iced tea alternatives. There were none. Our waitress was friendly but never checked back to ask if our food was ok. I truly believe that it was busy because its one of the few venues open after 9:30 pm, not because of the food. I can understand the cost because of the high rent of being on Church street, but the food should and could be much,...
