Let me tell you why I'm excited about this little restaurant in Caldwell called La Cocina!! The menu was concise and way up to my exceedingly extravagant standards. I was very impressed by the fresh pressed tortillas straight from the hot plate. The Menudo arrived swiftly featuring purple hominy. That has always been my favorite. I find it stimulating as it adds vibrancy as well as contrast to my bowl. Then, you get the generous portions inside a blue corn tortilla accompanied with a side of consume/broth to dip in. The portions are so large that you can break it up into a couple of tacos. The must haves, for the vegetarian minded, would it be the tacos de Nopales con frijoloes(cactus tacos with beans) simple as it can be yet sublime ... or for the carnivores amongst us it would be the outrageously elegant birria(braised beef steak). Merely Fantastic!! The only addition I would welcome would be a habanero/citrus infused cosume as an option for the birria. Nice touches are the fresh flowers on the table and a very nice recyclable paper take home bag for...
Read moreMe & my friend have been going around Canyon/Ada County trying to find different, little or "hole in the wall" restaurants the last 1.5yrs and this has been on my "to go list" for awhile. So, weekend we both were quite hungry & had time to go somewhere & after finding out the original place we decided on was closed, so I mentioned La Cocina & so we went.
Upon walking in (not long after they opened) there was a family and 2 couples already sitting down & waiting on their food which is a great sign, IMO. I ordered the 3x Birria Tacos & friend had the Birria Burrito. Also we had a half order of Chips & Salsa (thx for suggesting the half order) with a Coke & Sprite.
All tho I wish I understood the menu & portion size better, I & my friend was MORE then pleased & overwhelmed by the portion size of food, which ended up a good thing due to the freshness, quality & taste!! Everything was simply Phenomenal!!
So Next time, and YES, there will be a next time soon, I'll try the Quesa Birria with one of their...
Read moreQuesabirria should be the one and only thing on your mind when you come here. 😊 Seriously, this restaurant is the best kept secret in the area. Originally I thought the price was a bit high for image I had in my mind. When the food comes out, they give you two MASSIVE Quesabirrias, LOADED. Hand made tortillas and literally the size of a plate. We must have come in right before the lunch rush because within 10 minutes of arriving, 18 others came in to fill up the restaurant. Wish I had known this place before!
Come hungry because you'll be leaving ready to sleep the...
