My review exceeded the character limit by a good amount. So, quick version. Super nice lady checked me in, I feel bad for being so short on my way out but I was pretty heated about my stay. There was a broken blind in my room facing the main street. This made me quite uncomfortable as for me a big part of renting a room is privacy. This small but very noticeable, from both inside and out depending on lighting, hole in my comfort killed my vibe as it preoccupied my thoughts from the time I tried to close the blinds to the next morning on my way out. Also the duvet cover threw up an invisible plume of dust if you dropped your arm down next to your head while attempting to get to sleep that tickled my nose and made me feel like I may get sick the next day, I did not get sick.
Now I'm going to paste back in as much of my original review as this box will allow before it turns red again...
I've held for a bit, I was pretty heated. Wanted to let it settle.
Few quick things...don't miss the shared bathroom situation. Also, parking on the streets. Can't speak for the woman's but there are 2 stalls in the men's, there are doors on the stalls, said doors swing inwards, the stalls a smol, you have to ninja around the toilet to get the door back open and yourself back out should you close it. I didn't use a shower but everything was nice and clean and wouldn't have hesitated had I gone for a hike or something along those lines given the beautiful area. Wedding was my itinerary then straight home. Not sure if the rooms that come "with" a restroom have it inside the room or if they mean the rooms directly next to the shared restrooms. But now I digress.
I got into town about an hour before check-in. Front desk was very nice and let me know the room would probably be another half-hour or so. I offered to come back in an hour at the correct time but she handed me the key and checked me in so I was all set. Very nice. Also...if you're reading this then you'll probably read the paper she gives you...but don't miss that you have to hit the check mark on the keypad as the paper shows, those as it turns out are not just to call your attention to the important part of the paper (it also says this directly underneath...which is obvious as all can be, when you see it).
Killed the bit of time, took my stuff up to my room. Cute. Sink in the room, creaky wooden floors. Small, but fits the old building. Expected somewhat quaint but modern touches decor, they include earplugs on the stands on either side of the bed I didn't use but a nice and appropriate touch. Wouldn't want to have a kid in there or any other human I'm not good with being on top of constantly. I am in room #1, which is at the face of the building with the main street outside, this will be more important shortly. The light from the windows is nice. Initial impressions were all good, though I'm not used to shared bathroom situations, but the sink in the room helped greatly as I prepared for the wedding I was attending and headed out the door.
Upon my return as I head up the stairs off the main street with the suitably socially lubricated in their various discussions just behind me I make the u-turn at second floor to walk down the narrow hall, doing my best not to disturb any early sleeping attendees with the squeaks under my feet so easily wafting through the cracks of the old to unknown ears, I arrive at the end where my door stands to the right of the one directly in front of standard hallway travel vector leading outside to a patio. This patio door at the end of the hall, and again...directly next to my room door, is propped open letting the clean cool air and increasingly avid discussions fill the hallway. This pleases me, I like the open air, the cool of the night, and the voices mixed with the creaking of the building are white noise taking the place of my typical YouTube lullaby. I don't even play Rust but quick shoutout to Willjum, dudes voice...
Read moreIncredibly unethical business practices. First, we arrive to make reservations and the owner or manager, stated to us it would be extremely busy the following night. When we arrived it was quite the opposite, obviously a bait and switch tactic. Secondly, the fixed-price menu for St Patrick's Day, which actually wasn't saint Patrick's Day, although it was advertised and promoted as a saint Patrick's Day events, clearly showed all items from the middle part of the menu down with no price including Irish coffee. no one in our party actually wanted nor ordered Irish coffee so we just ask for regular coffee but when informed by the waiter that we would be charged for regular coffee but the Irish coffee was free we all decided to switch, only to receive a bill with $13 / coffee on the bill. Not only did the person who process the bill refuse to remove it from the bill when questioned about it, our actual waitress continue to argue with me about it and it was only after I mentioned negative social media reviews that the owner finally came out, after making me wait for several minutes, didn't do a single thing, except what we had originally asked 30 minutes earlier, and that was removed the $13 Irish coffee drinks. Incredibly deceptive from beginning to end and even more astounding, clearly the owner doesn't understand me idea of comping a meal or even discounting it after a bad experience especially after their own employees were clearly trying to slip a fast one by us and then argue with us about removing it from the bill. Will never...
Read moreArrived at the Inn, to find no parking on site. Had to find parking half a block away & lug our suitcases to the inn. Checked in to be told the wifi doesn’t work too well in the rooms, so if important come downstairs to use it. We got to our room to find it very hot and stuffy. We knew there was no air conditioning, but hoped the ceiling fan could cool It down, but it was ineffective. Opened the window and it overlooked the loud brewery outside dining area below. There was also an industrial exhaust fan on the roof outside our room making noise. The rooms was very small and basic with a bathroom down the hall, in the women’s bathroom there was no liquid soap at the basin. Very basic amenities and yet the charge is $229 plus tax for the night! Extremely overpriced. When I enquired about the possibility of another room that may not be as hot or loud, or if the fan perhaps was not working properly, management didn’t care, and said the fan only goes at one speed and all the rooms are hot. We had to sleep in our room with the hall door open & window open to try and get the hot air to dissipate, loud music coming from downstairs, traffic noise and the sound of an exhaust fan until way past 11.30pm. We were in room 17, so don’t stay in that room if you value your sleep. Please don’t charge hotel rates I’d you are not prepared to provide hotel service. I’m sure there is better value elsewhere in Calistoga. Disappointing experience and will not be recommending...
