On Saturday 6/22/19, following a delightful visit to Hearst Castle, I went with my wife and daughter to the Old Stone Station in Cambria for lunch, arriving at 1:30 PM. We could have done much better.
The restaurant did not have many customers and we were offered the choice of either sitting inside or outside on their dining terrace. We chose to sit inside and were placed at a corner table that had not been thoroughly cleaned following its last patrons (Sticky and salt spills). After a decent amount of time a server came to take our drink order. We told him we were ready to order our meal, but he declined to take the order by saying that our waiter would be with us shortly. He did not make any attempt to wipe the table nor did he notice that there was no silverware or napkins present.
He returned fairly quickly with our drink order, and was followed soon after by our waiter who took our food order. but still no silverware service and still sitting at sticky table. My daughter ordered the “fish and chips”, my wife the “clam chowder in a bread bowl” and I ordered the “calamari sandwich with fries”.
A this point, still no silverware service had been provided.
The food items appeared quick enough, and at that point we had to ask for the silverware service, which had still not been provided, and which for some reason took a few more minutes to be produced.
While waiting I started to nibble on my french-fries, which I found were stone cold ! I asked my daughter if her fries were cold, and she said (and I verified) that they were not. I checked on the calamari sandwich, which was simply a microwaved disk of squid sliced into smaller sections and place on a toasted roll …. And found that the calamari was also stone cold. (Not frozen, but still cold) My daughters fish was advertised as being fresh hand battered filets, but was in fact frozen and breaded, not fresh and battered, and was a lesser quality than want a person could obtain from McDonalds by ordering a fish filet sandwich. I believe that her fish item was likely something akin to what you would find in a cardboard box the frozen food section of your local market.
I actually stood up and walked into the back of the restaurant to find our waiter. I asked him to come back to our table where I showed him the meal I had been served and told him that the two items were cold. To his credit he offered to replace the meal. Which he did, but which was not served for another 20 minutes. My wife and daughter had completed their selections before I was finally served.
On the positive side, my wife said her clam chowder was excellent.
I would not recommend this place unless you want to overpay for frozen and then microwaved food. You will get a better product (and service)...
Read moreIf i could leave no stars i would. The food was great but the waitress who is a little bigger with blondish brown hair, maybe Lauren is her name was very rude. I ordered a Dr. pepper for myself and my daughter and it was rootbeer with a hint of the sweetness of dr pepper. I asked the front guy who walked by if we could get a Dr Pepper that what we were given was rootbeer he said that they switched the lines so maybe thats why it tasted like that. The blonde comes out and starts off with, "we havent had rootbeer her in 3 months so what you have is in fact dr pepper" and I am a Dr. Pepper drinker and know the difference between the two is what I responded with. She then started arguing with me. I just told her I am good with water. When i asked others her name nobody would tell me. When I asked for a manager the said nobody was there because of a party. The waitress only asked us once if we needed anything. Also do not like the fact that they put their on 17 dollar tip on there. I guess the menu states they do this but I didnl not see it because i would have left a penny. Paid 110 for 4 adults and 1 child to eat and the food was great but you wont find friendly...
Read moreVery cute little restaurant but horrible server. Our initial contact with staff was pleasant. The young gentleman was helpful and accommodating to our large party of 11. We were there for a birthday celebration fully aware of the $30 dinner entrées and 20% gratuity for party's over 5. Our interaction with the server was the complete opposite of the couple she was helping just before she condescendingly spoke to my husband and I as we waited for our party to arrive. She seemed irritated when we mention our party size and that the space was a bit to small. She made a mistake with our drink order and treated us like it was our fault (handing me an orange juice when she stated it was lemonade and giving an adult a drink in a child's cup) stating "this is what i asked you about" and " I know what she ordered". I don't know if it was our party size, the fact that we had 5 children with us or the cultural diversity of our group but she definitely treated us differently then the older Caucasian couple she attended to just before us. Needless to say i will never reccomended this place to...
