This is a story of the good, the bad and the ugly.
We'll start with the good. The staff was friendly and the drinks were great. Unfortunately everything after this point is the bad and the ugly.
We started the evening with bacon wrapped dates. This was our first mistake. The bacon was burnt and the dates were mushy. This was followed by focaccia bread with oil and vinegar. The focaccia bread is made in house and the texture and crunch were good. The flavor was a little on the bland side. The oil and vinegar mix was unfortunately very stingy with the vinegar.
Next up, the ugly, AKA the main course. I ordered the tenderloin steak and my gf had the smoked half chicken. I ordered medium rare and my tenderloin came out inedibly overdone. My gf ordered the smoked half chicken which was extremely dry. I'm not sure if the restaurant was understaffed tonight, but no one noticed my attempts to try and return my steak or checked to see how our dinner was going. I finally gave up. When they came to clear the plates, it was either unnoticed or they just didn't care that my steak had not been touched.
I had such high hopes for this place. It was date night and I wanted someplace special. The reviews were great, a friend, now ex friend of mine, even recommended this place. I wasted cologne on this place.
I've eaten at some great Portland area eateries, this does not make that list.
Fortunately we stopped at Dairy Queen on the way home so the night wasn't a total loss.
Does this place deserve a one star, maybe not. But when you add in my disappointment plus the inaccurate pricing on the menu and there you...
ย ย ย Read moreThe siren song is absolutely amazing in every way! You'll first notice the ambiance and atmosphere, which are the most unique I have ever encountered anywhere. Picture a sort of post-apocalyptic steampunk atmosphere in a maritime theme, and you'll get a good idea of what this is like. I know that sounds bizarre, but in person, it is just awesome. The food is off the charts great! Without fail, everything I've ever had here has been utterly spectacular. This is perilously close to fine dining, what you would not expect to find at a cocktail bar in Canby. The name "jalapeno poppers" is a severe understatement to what you actually get. You'll get jalapenos sliced vertically in half, stuffed with various delicious meats that are all prepared in-house, and then baked to perfection. They're absolutely awesome! The bacon-wrapped dates are mind-blowingly great! The bacon is made from the raw animal parts in-house, and it is spectacular. I do not drink alcohol, but there are some non-alcoholic mocktails on the menu as well. I opted for the Rob Roy, which featured housemate grenadine, and it was absolutely fantastic. Be sure to try their creme brulee if you go. It is without doubt the best I've ever had anywhere! The texture is mind-bendingly great and the flavor is perfect. I've had creme brulee French restaurants that don't do it as well as...
