Jerry’s Pizza: A Forty-Eight-Year Legacy of East Texas Flavor
Stepping into Jerry’s Pizza is like walking into a piece of East Texas history. Nestled just off I-20, this unassuming pizzeria may not turn heads from the outside, but inside, it delivers an experience steeped in tradition and flavor. The newly remodeled interior strikes a perfect balance between modern comfort and nostalgic charm, with a rustic pizzeria vibe that feels timeless. Even the remnants of a vintage arcade—long forgotten and barely operational—linger as a nostalgic reminder of simpler times. For me, those memories are personal: I first visited Jerry’s Pizza two decades ago, and returning now feels like revisiting an old friend.
Jerry’s menu reflects its blend of tradition and modernity. Alongside classic toppings like pepperoni and Italian sausage, the pizzeria caters to today’s diverse tastes with options such as crustless pizzas and a small selection of sandwiches. The sandwiches are straightforward but satisfying, with offerings like the Italian Dip, a house twist on the French Dip, and the newly introduced Meatball Sub.
For my main course, I chose the house favorite, Jerry’s Special. This take on a classic supreme pizza is a masterpiece of toppings, featuring jalapeños, mushrooms, anchovies, and all the traditional additions you’d expect. Jerry’s reputation for generous portions is well-deserved: each slice was piled high with perfectly layered meats, peppers, and vegetables. The crust, though perfectly baked, was almost invisible beneath the mountain of fresh ingredients. Whether you’re dining solo or feeding a family of four, Jerry’s has you covered with sizes ranging from small to their impressive “giant” pizza.
As a child, Jerry’s Pizza was a magical experience—aside from the anchovies, of course. Let’s be honest: no child willingly eats anchovies, no matter what their parents claim. But everything else on the menu was pure joy, and that feeling hasn’t faded with age.
Today, with two decades of pizza-tasting experience under my belt, I can confidently say Jerry’s still holds its place as one of East Texas’ finest. I’ve traveled extensively and sampled pizza across the U.S., from iconic New York slices to deep-dish Chicago staples. While Jerry’s doesn’t have the name recognition as these styles, it delivers something just as valuable: Consistency, quality, and a connection to the community of Canton. Jerry’s rightfully earns a spot in the top tier of my pizza rankings. It’s more than a restaurant—it’s a legacy, one that’s worth...
Read moreI stopped in today after my visit to first Monday, and we instantly greeted by very welcoming staff. Once we got up to the register the lady who was taking our order was seemingly in a rush. Being the only customers in the store I was a little shocked at her behavior. I ordered a small pizza with Alfredo, (which I had gotten the month prior)and the cashier told me I wasn’t able to get Alfredo on the small only on their medium and large. I am very sensitive to red sauce so having to settle with it was a little disappointing. After ordering we grabbed our drinks just to see that she had given us the wrong drink as well. We were able to get the drink issue rectified and sat down and waited for our order. The atmosphere and vibe in this restaurant is exactly what we need after a long day in the sun. We received our pizza and as usual it was delicious! While enjoying my pizza I looked behind my seat and saw MOUSE POOP!!! it was definitely not something I wanted to see when enjoying my lunch. I guess the standard for service and overall cleanliness is not a concern. If you’re looking for yummy pizza, piss poor customer service, and possibly a new pet mouse, this is...
Read moreUpon entering we were unsure of what the procedure was. No one seemed willing to say, "Hey I can take your order over here when you're ready," and we were clearly trying to figure out if we were supposed to sit or order at the counter. Then we ordered and everything was much higher than expected after looking at the menu but ok. We were given a number but still no direction even though we told them this was our first visit. We went and found a table and waited, but I had seen a sign in the counter that said "pick up pizza here." So that caused confusion with pizza pickup. One of our party had to seek out someone to clarify what we were actually supposed to be doing. If you want a refill I guess you are supposed to go back to the counter. I'm not sure about that still. The food was really good, but EVERYTHING was SUPER overpriced. We won't be going back. We could have gotten much better pizza and amazing service for less at the Craft 64 place not far away. You live and learn I guess. I know...
