We walked by George's Place while exploring the neighborhood around our hotel. We saw a sign that said buy one get one free entrees and took note. Later in the day our family friend recommended trying George's Place which solidified our choice to try it out.
We looked through the menu and found a lot of tasty meat options, however, not too many veggie/vegan entree options for my brother. We explained my brother is vegan and they said they were able to accommodate by providing a falafel entree option, Luckily, my brother loves falafel. We asked to substitute tzatziki for hummus (so it's vegan). Thought we explained that he was vegan, we noticed his entree still had feta cheese over his salad. We didn't make a big deal of it; my brother just took off the top layer of his salad (though other vegans might be more strict about this).
My husband and I shared a branzino entree and a mixed platter appetizer. My goodness! These entrees were absolutely huge and delicious! The branzino was cooked perfectly - crispy outside and moist flakey inside! Wow! The branzino also came with a large bed of sauteed spinach and a very large side of Caesar or Greek salad - we chose the Caesar and it was delicious! The mixed grill appetizer was definitely a huge entree portion and with a surprise of waffle fries on the bottom. It would have been nice if the waffle fries were served on the side though because the waffle fries were soggy from all the meat juices (some people might like this, but for me I like my fries crisp).
Overall, I was really happy with the entree sizes and quality of meats and sides (for the price I would expect larger sizes even with the 50% discount). I would probably prefer half entree options for a lesser cost because staying at a hotel makes heating up leftovers a little tricky or if you would rather order more options to try a variety of things (for example I also wanted to try the octopus but we knew we would not be able to finish it all).
We were very welcomed by the server Jaime who was super friendly and nice while helping us and while our order was being prepared. We also happened to meet the owner/manager, Yanni, who was a jokey/interesting character. He shared that he has 13 restaurants within the restaurant group.
Another important note is that this restaurant is cash only so be prepared with that before arriving. Four stars because of the issues with the cheese on the vegan entree and the soggy fries but honestly a strong...
Read moreWe decided to try this place since we have been walking past it for years. I wish we would have kept walking! I had high hopes since I love Greek food. My first warning however should have been when I ordered my gyro, in Greek it should sound like "yea-roh" but the Greek looking waiter repeats the order with a big old "Jiroh". Maybe this doesn't make sense but it's pronounced one way and a real Greek restaurant wouldn't say it the other.
Ok sorry for the tangent, so out come out gyros. Side of the small salad as a healthier option. Was surprised that it wasn't a small "Greek" salad at the Greek restaurant, but it was good. Mixed greens some parsley and stringed cucumbers, chickpeas tossed in oil and vinegar. Wish I would have just had that. The Gyro is where it all went wrong. The pita was good but completely ruined with uncooked slabs of processed gyro meat. I have no idea why Guy from the food channel recommends this place. Gyro meat probably frozen and brought in by a Sysco or something is not worth any stars! When our server asked how it was and I say I'm shocked by the lack of quality in their meat, he tells me it is not a processed product and it's real lamb. Same guy who can't pronounce the sandwich by the way.
At this point I was upset and now comes the kicker. Received the bill, placed my credit card down and he tells me cash only. Why isn't there a sign out front, by the host station, anywhere? So had to send my fiancé down to the ATM, not our bank so have to pay the wonderful fees, yea!
One saving grace I will give the place. As I was sitting waiting for money the one server did talk to me and actually apologized. Something the other server forgot to learn to do I guess. She was very nice and actually listened to my suggestion that if they would crisp, not just warm the processed meat on the flat top. It would actually improve the taste and help give the meat a better texture that would resemble the true, cut right off the cone taste and feel of real meat. I will try to include a picture of a few pieces of the "real" lamb as described by the server and let everyone decide if this was a processed...
Read moreRestaurant received great reviews so decided to try it. Put our name in with one person in front of us. Few minutes go by and more people come and start putting their names in. After about 30 minutes first person there gets called in. 10 minutes later they call names of people that showed up after us. I say something politely to make sure our name is on the list. I’m rudely told yes and you are next. Fast forward ahead 4 more couples are taken ahead of us. At this point we are waiting for an hour. I go ask again and the one girl says to another “their name somehow got crossed off the list”. I understand mistakes happen. Especially in a time when reduced capacities are met. But to wait over an hour and have multiple people taken in front of you when you politely ask after it happens first time is completely unacceptable. We didn’t want to make a scene in front of other customers so we left and called number. Asked to speak to manager/owner. We were told that information couldn’t be given to us and then they proceeded to place us on hold and not come back to line. We visit Cape May frequently and have always wanted to try this place. You have lost customers and will definitely tell others of...
