Let me start by saying that I have been traveling to Cape May for almost 10 years now and have family who live there year round. I have visited the various arcades multiple times with my children and feel like I have a solid ground to stand on while writing this review and can help others make their decision based off this review.
This particular arcade I've never been a fan of because there are a lot of games inside that just don't work and look/feel old and dirty. These games that don't work also don't have any "out of order" signs on them too. They just leave them there like they don't care, even if it means eating peoples money. Seems kinda lazy to me.
The prizes are just stupid. 5000 tickets for a toy that probably costs $15. I understand the arcade needs to make money but 5000 tickets is a ridiculous amount to gather when the games themselves hardly hand out any tickets. I remember seeing a duck game where you shoot water at these ducks floating in water. It said 50-100 ducks = 5 tickets / 100-200 ducks = 20 tickets / 200-300 ducks = 50 tickets / 300-999 ducks = 70 tickets. Getting 200 ducks in the amount of time given is near impossible and then they go and add a 999 duck cap haha what a joke. It isn't enough that you're dropping $30 (some spending even more), but they rub it in your face too.
Last but not least (and ultimately why i'm writing this review), after having spent about $20 or $30, my kids wanted to do 1 last ride on the little speedboat outside. They all get in and I'm standing next to them waiting for my wife to get a few more quarters when this old lady sitting in a wheel chair blurts out "Don't shake that boat!". I was literally just holding the boat with my hand and she continues to say "If you're going to sit somewhere then go sit on a bench. These rides cost money!". I looked at her and said "Well there isn't a line of people waiting to use the ride, we're just waiting" and her response is "well i'm the owner and if you want to sit somewhere, sit on a bench". So I took my kids out and walked them inside so we can use up our tickets we won. I asked the worker who lady in the wheelchair was and he said "That's the owner". So I told him how she treated me and my kids and he says "Oh yeah, she tends to give people are hard time" and walks away. I was just surprised by their behavior and don't think i'll ever go back to this arcade.
The owner clearly doesn't care about it's customers (which makes sense considering the poor condition a lot of their games are in) and treats them like garbage.
Do yourself a favor and go to other arcades on the boardwalk. They're in better condition, bigger, and above all, appreciates...
Read moreEvery time my girlfriend and I go to or stay in Cape May we always come to this arcade and it has become a tradition of ours. We love skee ball and play side by side every time we come. We play each other to see who can get the most points during each game. She tends to win a lot more than I do so as a joke she got me a table-sized version of skee ball to practice with as a joke. When we first came to this arcade this past June during our first vacation together I played this claw machine game that had pink colored and blue colored dolphins. I was trying to win her the pink dolphin but couldn't. We realized that they had the same dolphins as a prize you could buy with the electronic tickets that you win when playing the games there. So then I made it my goal to win us enough points by the end of summer to get here one of the pink dolphins. Throughout this past summer, we have come here 5 times and finally, in early September, we had enough tickets to get a pink dolphin for her and the blue one for me. We also made it a tradition of ours to get our photos taken in the photo booth they have. The booth lets you take 4 photos and print them out on one photo strip. We do the same 4 poses in the same order every time we go into that booth. We always have such a great time. We also play space invaders every time we go. She loves that fame and then we also play this one dinosaur shooting hake as well which I love. I love the time I get to spend with her at this arcade. We create memories each time that I will never forget. The look on her face each time we go is a wonderful treasure that will stay...
Read moreIt's pretty awesome. Love me some Skee-Ball, and it was pleasing to be able to whale on some of those hellspawn Minions a la Whack-a-Mole. Some of the skee-ball machines exhibit slightly dysfunctional behavior, such as not registering that 9 balls have come down the chute, not dispensing enough balls, or (my favorite) awarding 10 points less than the printed value of the hole, making the 20 hole give 10, and the bottom hole giving zero, whilst bearing the label '10.' C'est la vie. Between myself and my brother, and in spite of the whacked-out skee-ball, we managed to earn enough tickets to redeem for some fuzzy dice, a [redacted] finger trap, and a couple of army guys. I always wanted fuzzy dice for the car. Thank you for making my dream a reality, Cape May Arcade. 8/10, would chuck...
