Wonderful location, but that's pretty much all that they seemed to have to offer.
The Cove feels outdated and stale. There is no AC, and the decor looks like it hasn't been updated in decades. The front of the restaurant is a mess of tables, junk in the window, and written signs everywhere explaining that they do not accept credit cards (Printers do exist you know!) TThere is a small attachment with a few tables on the side of the building, it smelled stale in the room, and there were flies EVERYWHERE. The table cloth had stains all over it, and looks like it hadn't been replaced in years. Another point about the venue, so much of that main building seems to be taken up by a station for the servers to wrap napkins and plate food. The entire staff were back there sitting in different parts of it in silence. I don't know if we just made it there at a weird time, but it felt like everyone is in timeout. It gave off a "We all hate our job" vibe
The food was subpar. My sandwich was cold, and felt like it was premade and just sat there for a bit. My friend's breakfast looked lovely, but the prices made what we ordered questionable.
Upon our exiting, it seemed that the owners were having a verbal altercation with either another employee, or somebody who was dressed well enough to not be a beach goer. It made things a bit awkward trying to pay. The moment he saw us he tried to brush it off as nothing, but the first impression was already done.
The service was lovely. I feel awful for our server though, we went to tip them, and the owner very loudly goes "Oh give me the money! I'll give it to them" I hope they received our tip. That was the best part of our visit.
The service we received is what saved this place from getting a one star. That and, I don't need a passive aggressive message from the owner on here about how I probably wasn't a patreon, as many of the other 1 star reviews on here seem to get.
There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance of the beach. Please try them instead. This is...
Read moreWell we have been coming to this place for years on our trips to Cape May but will never return! The food has always been blah and pricey but the view was nice and the owner was nice, or so we thought! We headed there after we checked out of our house to have a nice final breakfast at the beach. We have a 10 month old with very pale skin, so I asked the owner who sat us, if we could put up the umbrella. He said no problem and put it up for us and gave us menus. As we were starting to sit down an angry employee comes over and jumps on our picnic table, right next to my 2 Year old, and screams at us over the umbrella being up, and proceeds to put it down. I told him that the owner had put it up for us after I asked if it was okay. There were many umbrellas up at the other tables, and it wasn’t anymore windy then normal for beach. He said he doesn’t care it can’t be up and we can just leave. What kind of service is that? I went in to ask the owner and his response was “I’ll have to ask my brother”, then a waitress just sitting inside started screaming that we can’t have it up. So we walked out and got in the car to leave. Then the crazed employee was standing in the middle of everyone outside eating and giving us the middle finger. Then he comes to our car windows yelling again about taking down umbrellas. And the owner did nothing and said nothing about his employees acting this way to customers. He just lost a lot of business! All the people I know that go there will no be returning. Don’t bother going there, there’s nicer places in Cape May with nice...
Read moreMy husband pulled into a parking spot afterhours to load up my beach chair and bike and was first approached by a man who came out to tell him that they were closed. When my husband explained that he was just loading up some stuff the man said "okay" and went back inside. THE REAL ISSUE-a moment after that, a raging lunatic woman came out of the building and went on and on being super aggressive about "how dare you pull onto private property, you are both a-holes, blah blah blah" after we were told "okay"! This situation escalates tremendously (mind you my husband apologized and WE MOVED THE CAR) when this woman starts screaming and cussing at my husband and I in front of multiple families with young children. I'm talking full fledged f-bombs and everything in between. (I might have laughed at her at some point before the cursing.) When I asked her to quit cursing (as there were multiple children present under the age of 11) she said QUOTE "If they are your kids I hope they are and I couldn't care less" Finally, as we are leaving a man across the street said he was familiar with this woman and had some choice words about her as well which is concerning that other people have obviously seen similar behavior in the...
