The Beach Shack (in my opinion) is the best place to stay in Cape May. We have gone as a family for the past 3 years, and each year our only complaint is that our trip wasn’t long enough. The hotel is absolutely beautiful and the layout is super convenient. We like to stay near the pool area, as my wife and I vacation here with our two young children. This year we stayed in a garden suite shack, which provides a large patio area. During the day the patio is wonderful to have for the extra storage, especially when coming back from the beach with sand on your stuff. At night, my wife and I enjoyed sitting outside at the picnic table taking in the good weather and ambience that the hotel provides. It really feels like you’re on a resort property. Prior to your stay, the office reaches out numerous times via text message, and ensure that they are prepared for your stay. I used this feature this year, and they were quick to respond and help us out with whatever we needed. Check in and check out was seamless, and we actually got into our room 3 hours prior to our scheduled check in time which was a huge bonus. Our room was immaculate and clean, and the housekeepers did an amazing job each day. During our stay the housekeeping manager reached out via text to offer additional amenities and to make sure we received the best treatment possible. The pool is large and accommodates plenty of guests. It never seems to get crazy, and I had no issue bringing my 2 year old and 7 month old in the pool every day. There is also a bar in the pool area which not only provides drinks-but also food from the Rusty Nail. We loved this, as it takes the guesswork out and allows us to enjoy our vacation without having to run around all over the place. When you’re not at the pool, the hotel provides complimentary beach passes. There is a beach across the road from the property, and it doesn’t seem to get too busy. We had no issue finding an area to post up on the beach each day while still enjoying our privacy as a family. We noticed that the Beach Shack takes pride in providing a family friendly experience. It seems to rub off on the patrons, as everyone is so polite and respectful. We met a bunch of families while we were on our trip and made plenty of great memories. Regardless of how you’re traveling; alone, as a couple or as a family, I can assure you that you can’t go wrong staying here. The vibes are always positive and the experience seems to get better each year for us. As bad as it sounds, I could spend a week on the property without exploring Cape May and I think I’d have a successful vacation. On a side note- my wife and I happened to meet one of the owners of the hotel during the first night of our stay. At the time, we were completely unaware that he was affiliated with the property and we thought he was just a friendly hotel guest. He was humble and kind and chatted with us briefly outside of our room. He was our first friend of the trip, and made us feel at home. We didn’t find out until the next day that he actually owns it. It was cool to see him genuinely interacting with guests and improving their experience. So thank you to Will for jumpstarting our amazing trip. We’ll see you next year!

This is a tough one, I want to give it 3.5 stars. I will start with the pros: Great hotel staff. They're very friendly and accommodating. We even left behind a small USB cable, and they texted us and mailed it within a few days. Most things left behind are just gone. That is pretty darn good service. It's nice how they take care of you at the pool and beach as well, putting out chairs and umbrellas and towels. It definitely gives you a resort feel. The rooms were clean and modern. The bunk beds were great for kids. The beach is easy to access, although for the price you pay, you would expect a beach front hotel. Also, I noticed there weren't bugs or cobwebs everywhere. I'm very observant when it comes to cleanliness, and I will say they do an outstanding job maintaining the property and keeping it clean. Cons: It is really expensive. It essentially is a motel... all rooms have outdoor access. It is advertised as a family friendly place... and there were tons of families there. However, they play very, very loud music until 12am. We had 3 sound machines going, and we still couldn't sleep. The adjoining restaurant, Rusty Nail... was terrible, in my opinion. Our breakfast was 60 dollars. Our dinner was $170. This isn't 5 star dining here. In the morning, I just wanted a coffee, and my husband wanted tea... it was 10 dollars. That's insane to me. Everything is just insanely overpriced. But when you have 3 kids, you want the convenience of eating close by.. so I guess that's where they get you. There is no elevator, so keep this in mind with your bags and traveling with children. However, the staff will help you carry up your bags - again, wonderful service. I originally was upset about not being on the 1st floor... but I'm glad now because the music would have been that much louder. I don't know if we would go back, mainly because of the cost... $1200 for 2 nights in September. I can't justify spending that when the whole family is up until midnight listening to live music right outside the door.

Great Location. Just far enough away from the Washington Street shopping & dining area to not be too crowded but close enough to walk to so you don't have to look for and pay for parking. Beach access is right across the street. Parking can be a challenge since it is shared with the restaurant but we always manged to find a spot. This was 2 weeks before Memorial Day and it was pretty full at dinner time already. Our room was cleaned daily and the room was up to date. We had the Shaka suite so it had plenty of room to spread out and we did not feel crowded with 4 people. Liked having a semi-private deck as well. There was live music every night at the restaurant but when you're in the room you can barely hear it. However we are from NYC so we are used to constant ambient noise. Would stay here again.

Our new favorite place, hands down. We can never go back anyplace else, we are that spoiled by The Beach Shack! It’s everything you need, and other things you didn’t even know you wanted.||||Highlights to me:||||The pillows are comfy and there are enough of them, even with me being a pillow hog||||We don’t hear any other room||||Last night we pulled the blinds all the way up and watched the storm over the ocean as a family ||||Coffee table big enough for a board game or puzzle ||||The pool is heated, just taking the chill off, and there is complimentary water and tiny cups ||||People who set up at the beach for you for free (please tip) - eliminating family fights and grumpiness ||||Live music. Love it all, but especially Matt DiVenti on Mondays||||Fire pits in the sandy outdoor area, perfect for outdoor reading||||Summer chair seating around outdoor tables. Perfect for when we were busy all day and didn’t plan dinner||||The restaurant and bar are large, and nice. The zucchini sticks are my favorite||||It’s just not as busy this far down Beach Ave, a plus||||Beach right across the street. View from the room, walk across the street to pop over, or walk at night to look for critters or shells with kids||||Built in social life for your kid. Congrats, you are no longer the sole source of entertainment. The sandy area is the go to spot for all the kids running around and playing together. (It is welcome, not disruptive.)||||Kid social life continues. They’ll now see these friends at the ocean. Everybody sets up in the same area; who wouldn’t use the hotel’s free set up service?
