I was there last Saturday with my husband for dinner. We ate outside and the setting was lovely. We ordered a bottle of wine and after opening, the waitress spilled a considerable amount on me , maybe just under half the bottle. She said she was sorry and returned with a dish of seltzer and a napkin. The table cloth was covered in red wine throughout the meal, as was my white shirt sleeve and poncho and jeans. I was kind in my response since I didn't want the situation to ruin my meal. The waitress came to our table one time to see how the meal was, then dropped the check folder in front of us. I was somewhat surprised that a manager never came out, or that the waitress never offered more of an apology, let alone an offer to replace the wine that she spilled. When asked if we were ready to settle up, I said that I was taken-back by the lack of concern and that we was still a charge for the wine. She marched off in a huff after reiterating that "it was an accident!" Soon after the manager (or someone in charge) came out and the first words out of her mouth were "It was an accident." Now, I got a little heated. I responded, "Well I hope so, otherwise your staff is going around and purposefully pouring red wine on customers. Yes, it was an accident but there was damage." With a very terse tone, she suggested that I mail her the dry cleaning bill. Fine Dining? What a joke. I said really? Not even an offer of dessert or replacement of the wine? She explained it was against the law to comp the wine (a lie) but then said - Oh, you want free dessert? Now I was really ticked off. That establishment spilled red wine on me I sat with a soiled table cloth in wet clothes thru my meal and she's treating me as if I just want a free dessert! Are you kidding me? We paid in full for our meal (which was a solid 6.5). I'm going to be mailing in the receipt to replace the soiled clothes that didn't come out in the dry cleaning bill. I wonder how this "fine dining" establishment will handle it from here. All of this could have been avoided with a little empathy and a little onus. We are local and won't be returning to Tisha's. Revised my two star rating to a one star... no response...
Read moreI was eager to try Tish's in Washington Square, Cape May, as my Mom had been wanting to go for a while. We visited for lunch on Memorial Day weekend, and I specifically chose lunch as I'm not a fan of risotto, which is prevalent on the dinner menu. The atmosphere was lovely, and the guests at the neighboring tables added to the charm. However, it was evident that the restaurant was understaffed, with our waiter juggling multiple tables both inside and outside. We waited for about an hour for our fried calamari and Cobb salad. One of the appetizer dishes was dirty, but the waiter promptly replaced it.
While another guest mentioned that everything is freshly prepared, waiting an hour for lunch seemed excessive. The fried calamari was tasty, and the honey mustard drizzle added a unique touch, although the portion size was small. The Cobb salad with blackened chicken was missing the raspberry vinaigrette and lacked blue cheese crumbles. The Italian Burger, with roasted peppers, baby spinach, Fontana cheese, and balsamic drizzle, was flavorful, but the fries were underseasoned and the roll slightly soggy. Food rating 2.5/5 stars
The ambiance was elegant, earning a 5/5 rating. The service was a bit slow, likely due to being short-staffed, but our waiter worked tirelessly, and we appreciated his efforts. The hostess was also accommodating when we were late for our reservation. It's challenging for me to rate the service definitively given the circumstances.
Overall, I find myself on the fence about returning to Tish's. I'd like to give them another chance, as I believe they may have been understaffed or faced unexpected challenges during our visit. Additionally, I appreciated the BYOB policy. Our total bill came to $80 with tip, $5 for metered parking, and a $20 bottle of wine. So overall $105...
Read moreMy husband and I went here last weekend to celebrate our anniversary and brought our Goldendoodle with us. I mentioned he would be attending on our reservations when I made them weeks beforehand. It had been raining on and off before and during our dining time, which obviously, I don't blame the restaurant for. Nor did I expect them to seat us inside the building with our dog. What I don't find at all acceptable was how we were treated. We were made to feel completely unwelcome and actually were asked "Do you even want to stay here" when they couldn't or didn't want to accommodate us at any of the open tables under an awning because, "They are for reservations".. Which we had. Mind you these tables sat open THE ENTIRE time we were there being rained on outside of the awning space and also remained open after they ended up moving us to one of the spaces under the awning. We also witnessed the hostess yelling at a server for moving or switching tables which we could only assume was us since the way we were being treated which just made the night awfully awkward. Such a shame. We had such a great time everywhere else we went around Cape May that weekend. We chose Cape May for our anniversary trip so we could bring Woodson out with us. I would not say Tisha's is dog friendly, in fact, I would not say they're people friendly either. However (besides for the lobster bisque that is just completely overpriced for what it is) the food was pretty good. We got the seafood risotto, chicken milanese, cajun oysters and lobster bisque. Unfortunately, the food didn't make up for our first anniversary dinner being ruined by poor...
