We’ve been loyal members of Carruth Wine Cellars since they first opened in 2016. We’ve always loved supporting a local winery and stuck with them through the challenges of COVID, continuing to pay our membership even when things were uncertain. We even kept our membership when they reduced the wine benefit from two glasses a day to just two glasses a week — a big change that we accepted because we wanted to continue supporting them.
Unfortunately, we’re now canceling our membership due to the recent 30% price increase. What’s most frustrating is that we were never properly notified of this change. They sent the notice to an old email address on file that is no longer active — it likely bounced back. Meanwhile, they failed to send it to the primary email we use and receive all other winery communications through. A change this significant should have been clearly and thoughtfully communicated to loyal members.
We understand that costs go up, but this felt abrupt and poorly handled. We’ll miss the wine and the atmosphere, but this change just doesn’t reflect the value or customer care we used to feel as part of the...

EDIT 3/6/18 - After writing a 2 star review, I have noticed a HUGE difference in the Carlsbad location. the service has been bumped up, the pours are better and the service is WAY more attentive then it used to be.
By name:
Garret is awesome, this guy knows the wines, he knows how to keep engaged with customers as well as notice when you need a refill which was one of my main complaints "the pour's the service" he is great.
Taylor is really more warm to the customers and has also been more attentive to the customers. she also engages the customer's in conversation and notices when your glass is empty.
overall I have seen a big jump in service and smiles at Carruth. before we would only go there to get a tasting and leave feeling like "why did I sign up". well now my wife and I go there and leave feeling like we were treated as members should be treated after paying for our membership and buying up to 8 bottles a month.
good job Carruth, we are happy for the service provided and are glad to bring in...
Read moreI visited this tasting room recently. They charge $20 for 5 tastings served in 5 shot glasses all in a wooden tray. You get all your wines at once - not my favorite way to taste wine. This tasting room is next door to the train station which has nice views from where we were. Staff was very nice and attentive. If you choose to buy their wines, some whites start at $30 and reds are $45-$65 each. Their wines are not made with local grapes. They out source grapes from central and Northern CA. While some wines are delicious, I thought other wines were extremely pricey for what you get. Parking is a problem. There's several public parking lots blocks away so be prepared to drop off your party and park your...
