A Disheartening experience at Shore house kitchen
I rarely write reviews, but my experience at Shore house kitchen was so disappointing that I feel compelled to share. My friend and I were simply passing by when nature called, and we approached this establishment, hoping for a quick restroom stop. We were met with a rude and than, dismissive attitude from the staff, who refused to let us use their restroom because of their "customers only" policy. Now, I understand that businesses have policies, I had a retail business myself for many years but, I never ever refuse to someone in simple use of a bathroom trip, even I had a policy for "employees only". We approached the staff politely, but instead instead of a kindness and empathy we were ignored completely. At the end the hostess told us to leave or she is going to call a manager. We certainly didn’t look like we were in distress or in need of charity; we were just two women in need of a restroom with two Tesla's parked by this restaurant.
What struck me the most was the stark contrast to the neighboring café, The Lofty's, where we were welcomed with open arms. They allowed us to use their facilities without any purchase required, treating us with the respect and courtesy that everyone deserves. It’s disheartening to see such a lack of compassion at Shorehouse kitchen, especially when it’s clear that not everyone has the luxury of easily accessible restrooms.
If you’re considering dining here, just know that their customer service leaves much to be desired. I can’t imagine how difficult it must be for those who are truly in need, like the homeless, to find a place to relieve themselves. It’s a shame that this establishment chooses to prioritize policy over humanity. I won’t be returning, and I encourage others to think twice before supporting a business that lacks...
Read moreWe had a great breakfast on 6/12/22, at Shorehouse Kitchen's Carlsbad location. It was a rocky start here, I must admit, as my wife & I had to wait nearly 10 min., to be greeted & seated.
We got here around 7:40am, after they'd just opened, at 7:30. As we walked up, I noticed this place looked understaffed, with only 2 servers frantically taking orders & delivering coffees to guests sitting at tables on their large outdoor patio.
After we were seated, things got a whole lot better! Staffing improved significantly, & I got my regular coffee & blueberry scone. All was once again right with the world! Their coffee was hot & rich tasting. My scone was just a touch dry, but still good, loaded with blueberries, and sprinkled with sugar crystals on top
My wife ordered the Vanilla Bean Tahitian French Toast, plus added Bananas. This came with Chantilly Cream. She loved it! Thick french toast was coated in a light fluffy egg batter, and griddled to perfection. The Chantilly Cream & bananas took it to another level of delish!
I had the Monterey Omelette, a fluffy omelette, with sliced Poblano Peppers, tasty bacon, sauteed spinach & a healthy bit of white cheddar cheese, adding the ooey gooey factor. It was an excellent-tasting omelette, & the O'brien Potatoes were sliced in large chunks- golden brown outside, hot & tender inside. I asked for strawberry jam, & our server brought me a mini Bonne Maman strawberry jam jar. This is such an upgrade from what you'd normally get at a regular breakfast restaurant.
We ate on the patio, which had fiberglass panels overhead, to provide shade, plus we had a nice view of the palm trees & landscaping, which added beauty, to what would've otherwise been just a drab parking lot.
Great food, nice ambience, & just a touch slow service, at Shorehouse...
Read moreMy fiancé and I have been going to Shore House Kitchen in Carlsbad for about five years now. When I first started coming to the village, Shore House was easily our favorite place for brunch. The food was always fresh, the service warm and consistent, and we loved seeing the same friendly faces each weekend.
Unfortunately, over the past year or so, we’ve noticed a lot of changes—and not for the better. There’s been significant staff turnover, and the familiar servers and hosts we came to know over many years are no longer there. That familiarity and consistency was a big part of what made Shore House special for us.
More concerning, though, has been the quality of the food and attention to detail. The last three or four times we’ve gone, something has been noticeably wrong with our orders:
Most recently, my fiancé ordered an omelet that was supposed to have cheese inside. Instead, it came out without cheese, and rather than remaking it, the kitchen just threw white cheddar on top and microwaved it. Needless to say, she was pretty disappointed.
The time before, I ordered my favorite salmon salad, which usually comes with a great variety of toppings and sides. Instead, I was served salmon on top of plain lettuce, with many of the key ingredients missing. It felt incomplete and rushed, which was a big letdown.
We’ve left disappointed several times now, which is hard because Shore House used to be one of our go-to spots in Carlsbad. We truly hope they can turn things around and get back to the level of quality and service that made them such a standout place when we first...
