We have always loved ‘Tommy’s Wok’ but our last two trips were extremely disappointing. The second last time, the rice was very soggy and full of scrambled eggs as well as the noodles -full of pieces of egg. That had never happened before. We didn’t mention the noodles or the eggs but we did mention our soggy rice. Our waitress was rude, condescending and extremely disingenuous which is one of the worst character traits a host could ever embody. Her body language and glare as we politely explained the rice was too soggy was deafening and not wanting to cause a problem, we chose to suck it up. Last night we decided to go back and I asked the other waitress if she minded if we could sit in her section. She threw her hand out towards a table and loudly shouted to me in front of customers “we both serve you”. She pulled her arm in again and then shot it right back out leaning her head forward and rudely dismissing my polite request. Because I was with my elderly mother and it was her 87th birthday dinner, I decided to ignore her rudeness and didn’t say anything more. The same waitress we had before came up and didn’t even offer us tea because she didn’t want to and the tea bags must have already been used because there was no flavor. I didn’t feel up to saying anything. Then we ordered the rice and noodles again but I asked for less egg in the rice and for our our Singapore noodles with shrimp no egg. I had a feeling these women would make sure they sabotaged our dinner and they did. Although the rice and noodles were hot, they left out any eggs and didn’t even add the sauce so they couldn’t prepare our dishes the right way at all. It was mom’s 87th birthday dinner and we didn’t say anything and even paid an 18% tip but this seemed extremely deliberate and after thinking about it more, we are very upset. I am sure reading this, many people cannot relate, but I feel this needs to be shared simply because people who would dare to treat any of their customers like this should be shamed. Hosts who show such a lack of respect for their patrons elderly or not are showing they are confident in doing so and seem quite comfortable with their behavior, making it impossible for a customer to speak up. Time to speak up in a review and shame on this restaurant. It’s called...
Read moreAt 7:50 pm, I went to the restaurant with my service dog trying to order food to go. The staff Adam (owner last name Mao, first name Fu’s brother) escorted me to the back door through the kitchen and told me to go outside and he will tender me outside because I have a dog with me, he asked me to show him a certificate for the dog which is not required by stated, federal and the ada law, and he claimed if I don’t have such certificates there’s nothing he could do and he can’t tender me. I was kept out the back door and when I tried to leave through where I came in to get to my vehicle I was told that I had to leave from the back and go around the building because my service dog can’t go into the restaurant. He blocked me and my boyfriend and threatened to call the cops on us not letting us go back the way we came, forcing me to go up the stairs and around the building with my disability can cause detrimental damage with my already bad back and neuropathy. The waitress Anna later told me when I spoke to her that I seem just fine walking on my feet when I first arrived at the restaurant after I was forced to walk up the stairs and around the building to leave the restaurant. Later when I spoke with the restaurant owner he said because there was another customer in the restaurant that was allergic to dogs therefore they have to refuse service to me, which according to the ada I have the right to be given the same care with all other customers. Even the owner refused to provide service and was still asking me for a proper certificate that does not exist. This is pure discrimination. As I’m writing this I am still sitting in the cold in front of the Wells Fargo bank around the corner at 9:39pm waiting for my back to recover as it is going through spasms at the moment so that I could go back to the car, at this point my boyfriend had to go pull the car around and assist me to the car. Even the waitress saw us sitting here as she is getting...
Read moreWe were looking for an authentic Asian experience, and found it here. Waiting in line (5 minutes, max) to be seated we were recommended the Spicy Eggplant by customers who were leaving after their dinner. We were quickly seated by one of the very friendly hostesses, and supplied with Jasmin tea and water. We ordered the Wah Wonton soup as a starter, and then the Spicy Eggplant and the Oyster Beef. Our hostess advised us that the Oyster Beef had more vegetables than the Mongolian Beef, the other choice we had considered. The soup was amazing. A tasty broth, juicy dumplings, thin slices of beef, delicious shrimp, and loads of water chestnut, cabbage, and other veggies. Both main dished were a dream. The beef came with snow beans, bamboo shoots and mushrooms, in a delicious sauce. It was very tender, the veggies were crunchy - all in all delicious. But the Spicy Eggplant topped it all. We have never eaten a better eggplant. It was as crunchy as it was creamy, as spicy as it was sweet, with an orange tang to the spicy sauce. A dream of a dish. It melted on the tongue. We couldn't finish all the fodd, so asked for boxes. Our hostess boxed the rest of our food up for us as smiling and friendly as she had been with all customers all throughout our experience.
All in all, if you are in Carmel, you shouldn't miss out on...
