Scheid Vineyards Tasting Room — Attraction in Carmel-by-the-Sea

Poorly run. We had a reservation. Other people who had no reservation sat down at the table that was clearly marked and reserved for us but they allowed those people to sit and stay while we, instead, stood and waited and then shoved us at a table in the middle of all this foot traffic which was crowded and hard to enjoy the experience. When we asked if we could be seated at the table that was marked for us, he said no bc they had already been seated even though they admitted it was a walk in with no reservation and that party had just sat down there knowing the table was reserved for someone else. We are part of half a dozen wine clubs and have tasted around the world for the last 20 years and this is one of the most poorly organized tasting rooms we’ve experienced. Also the wine was mediocre at best (and that is me trying to be kind). No bathroom. Have to leave the tasting to trek up a hill to use a bathroom in a strip mall. We had the BEST time at Scheid's doing a wine tasting! First of all, and maybe most importantly, the wine is excellent! Dean, our wine tasting guide, was very knowledgeable and friendly. He perfectly walked the line of giving us enough information to learn about the wine without being overbearing or boring. He was able to answer all our questions, but it still felt like he was just another friend doing the tasting with us. The tasting room itself has great atmosphere and the perfect location, plus they have lots of cute merch available for sale. I think that even if the wine sucked we still would have had an amazing time, but luckily for us, the wine was fantastic! I went home with a bottle of the Appassimento and am saving it for a special occasion.

TL;DR you won't regret stopping at Scheid Vineyards...

If you come wine tasting here make sure that you ask for Hannah to be your server. I have never been wine tasting before and had a lot of questions. Hannah had an enthusiastic answer and an interesting explanation for everything. You can really tell she is someone that understands and is passionate about wines. She really made our whole experience here and helped me understand a lot about the wines they have to offer which are delicious. She helped me understand the flavor notes and how they are achieved it really made a big difference in my experience and I will definitely be coming...
