China Express — Restaurant in Carmel

Haven't really had any horror stories here, but I have had a few experiences where the people taking your order barely speak any english and even had to try and explain to them that their signs and dishes were not in the correct place when I ordered a spicy chicken dish where the sign was flopped with an obviously mushroom dish & she kept trying to give me the mushroom one claiming that was the spicy one and not the one that obviously had red pepper flakes. It's kind of sad when they only know how to read signs and not even realize their dishes are backwards and they are serving their customers the wrong thing. And apparently whoever put the dishes out couldn't read the signs at all since the mix up even happened. The food is standard fast food chinese. Not terrible but nothing impressive. Too many vegetables to meat ratio in most dishes but the overall flavor is decent. Would probably go there again if I was in a hurry and had no other chinese option but it definitely is not on my list of top favorite...

I have been coming here for years, since before I could drive! The food is standard American Chinese done right. The potstickers are always top notch, the fried rice is very well seasoned, even the egg rolls are amazing! The portions are large, and very satisfying. The reheat-ability is good too, you can rarely find good Chinese food where the leftovers tastes as good as the day before. Service is straight forward and not rude at all. The main guy in the kitchen makes a point to greet everyone, even though he seems like he doesn't speak much English. The actual establishment is about as hole-in-the-wall as you can get in Carmel, it looks like it was once an Italian restaurant, and as someone who used to work in restaurants all the time (You do not even want to know what most restaurant kitchens look like in the back, seriously.) the place seems well maintained and clean. They recently redid their flooring, which is exciting! Anyway, this is my favorite Chinese place...

Just went here to get an order of orange chicken. I should’ve never ordered here when I called and they hung up. After I got there and ordered the orange chicken, it had huge green peppers all over it. I’ve never had orange chicken with peppers and the “meat” looked as though they covered dumpling in sauce. I called and told them about my food and the man who greets you at the counter answered the phone and rudely said they can’t refund me or change my order to REGULAR ORANGE CHICKEN!!! Money wasted. Dark location, no lights out front, the inside was dirty and not lighted well. I took a chance on this place....
