I had an exceptional visit to Gen Korean BBQ House. The everything was delicious and the experience of cooking the food ourselves is always a fun adventure. The atmosphere was lively and the food was delicious, despite my best efforts to overcook everything.
Our server was attentive and brought everything we ordered, including plenty of the sides and sauces we requested. I was ecstatic about the âall-you-can-eatâ option, which changed the mood of our table from âHow much is that?â to âOooh, letâs get THAT! And THAT! And THOSE!!!â
I wondered if our grill would taint our later dishes with the grizzle from the earlier ones, but the grills are changed out regularly and often, so thereâs no lingering aftertaste.
Everything is well-marinated and well-prepared. Really, everything from the service to the food was perfect. And there was something that led to an even better experience than usual: Lucy.
An employeeâs warm demeanor and smiling face greeted us upon entering. She helped us get settled into a comfortable spot. She checked on us a few times, and I felt like she genuinely cared that we were enjoying our visit. I was impressed that she was checking on us long into our visit. I guessed that her role was that of a hostess. Is this person the best hostess ever?
To my surprise, I learned this person isnât a hostess, but rather, a manager. Her name is Lucy, and I was immediately and thoroughly impressed with her interest in ensuring our visit was excellent. Her warm grace and engaging manner is rare enough in service staff, but from a manager?! I was even more surprised by her. I guess Iâm used to managers not being seen, only coming out to handle a problem or customer issue.
On one of Lucyâs visits to our table, she could sense my unease, and by that point, I felt comfortable enough to ask her for guidance in cooking the prawns. She shared some good advice but could tell that I wasnât feeling confident enough to handle the prawns, so she offered her assistance, and I accepted. Lucy began preparing our prawns for us!!! đ The restaurant was moderately busy for a weeknight, but things seemed to be running smoothly, so Lucy was afforded a few minutes to help us get started with our shrimp. Her conversation was delightful, and she prepared our food with attention, interest and experience. Once the prawns hit a spot of âjust a little while longer, theyâll be ready to eatâ Lucy told us what to watch for and hoped the prawns would be delicious, which they absolutely were!
Lucy was efficient with every move, both around our grill and as we saw her move around the restaurant, tending to other customers and sharing her good vibes.
I really appreciated her âhands onâ approach when it came to helping us feel welcome, cared for, and in our case, well-fed. I was especially impressed that a manager would take the time to make us feel so very special.
Thank you, Gen Korean BBQ House. And thank...
Read moreI made a reservation for this location a week prior as we were celebrating my Wifeâs born day. Before arriving I called the restaurant and spoke with Denise to inform her we would have a party of 8 rather than 10. She assured me that they would still be able to accommodate us.
Upon arrival parking was a madhouse. When we got inside we were told that weâd had to either pay for 10 people or wait 2 hours, after a reservation was made a week in advance. The manager at the host stand was rude and dismissive, and could not clarify the menu. When asked if we could order the dinner menu he kept asking what do you want? It was our first time there and we needed further clarification. It wasnât until we were seated when Daniel, our server clarified that you start with 4 dishes from the dinner menu and that it was all you can eat for 2 hours.
The food itself was decent but the atmosphere was loud and obnoxious and the seats that I was forced to pay for were filled with other people (if I paid for two extra chairs we shouldâve gotten the whole table to ourselves OR not have paid extra since those seats were filled).
When we got the check, I asked to speak with the GM, because I wanted to understand why they simply couldnât honor what we were told over the phone. The GM refused to see us & instead sent that same dismissive manager and he insisted that the GM (Alex) could not come because he was seating people (a job the manager couldâve done so the GM could resolve a customer issue).
Overall the food was fine, Daniel was a great server BUT the dismissive manager, and the GM, Alex were very unprofessional. The GM especially was very cowardly in not wanting to handle the situation at all. There were 2 separate times where I asked for him specifically and even stared directly at him and he purposefully did not come to address the situation. He literally walked past the table after I called for him, saying âexcuse meâ and he pretended to ignore me. For this reason, we will NEVER be back and I will continue to express my discontent to all of my family, friends, coworkers, and strangers if the conversation arises. Thank you to Daniel and the other servers, y'all were A1 but the management was a strong disappointment in attitude and demeanor. Never...
Read moreI hate to put out bad reviews, but my experience at Gen KBBQ today was just frustrating and entirely disappointing. Itâs Memorial Day, mood is up, ready to spend money, eat a bunch of food, and have fun. That didnât happen thoughâŚ
Starting off, theyâre charging dinner price despite it being lunch time because it was a holiday, which is fine and we were cool with, BUT thatâs only if the service and such was even at 80% the standard. Originally ordering, most of the things we asked for on round 1 wasnât brought to us. Of the 15 plates requested for a GROUP OF 5, we got 4. 4!!! Itâs not like these plates are big or anything either, most people would be able to clear that in about 10 minutes just by theirselves. We finished that in about 3 mins after cooking it and was expecting for the rest of our order to come out. It never came. This lasted for another 30-40 mins before we had to bring it up to different servers.
To make matters worse, through the first round and for the entire hour and a half, despite asking for another pair of scissors and another set of chopsticks because we were not given enough at the beginning, we were never given those things. What didnât make sense was that the server even came back to ask if we wanted to order more. WE HAVENâT EVEN GOTTEN WHAT WE ORIGINALLY REQUESTED FOR LET ALONE THE BASICS! But of course we went ahead and ordered more.
After just sitting hungry for the next 30 minutes, running down our limited time (about 25 minutes left before our 2 hour limit now) we brought it up for someone who looked like they ran things and just left since now weâre hungry and paid for 4 plates which wasnât even close to being worth it.
Compared to other KBBQ spots like Omni or Bons, this was by far the slowest, least organized, and overall worst experience so far. Iâve had faster, smoother service on even more packed weekends elsewhere.
In summary, wasted one and a half hours, wasted money, smelled like meat and food from the smoke in there, and left hungry into the rain outside.
Almost completely forgot since the experience was so bad, but there was also an insect inside of my water just floating around. Shouldâve just left then.
Day...
