Update: I have added screenshots so that you can see the full conversation. A few points that I would like to make. They referenced the "Durbin Act" when I think they meant the Durbin Amendment. This was added to the Dodd-Frank law in 2010/2011. In essence, it puts a cap on what Merchants can charge retailers, and I cannot find a section that speaks to this topic regarding passing the fee on to the customer. Georgia does not prohibit surcharges, but merchant agreements often do. Visa, Mastercard, et al all have specific rules that a retailer must follow and everything I have found on this topic says that charging a fee on a debit card is strictly prohibited, even if it has a Visa logo which is the form of payment that we used.
The signage is extremely small based on the photo that they sent me, and there is no way that most people would notice it during daylight, much less after dark.
They did clarify the mystery $1.00 charge- I did not realize that my husband had ordered all flats for his wings, which is an additional charge. I do appreciate them clearing that up.
My intention in this post was never to disparage a local, small company. My career is based on building small businesses, but I also do not tolerate bad business practices and have no qualms with pointing them out. As I said in our exchange, even if it is technically legal, it is a terrible business practice. I do love that they instructed me to "clean up my comments" and said "not make you look like you're making up other things.", then softened the tone once I stated that screenshots would be shared. Do with this info as you will, just be informed consumers!
This has been a favorite spot for us and our friends to have dinner for a while now, but no longer. Jefferson's of Carrollton is now applying a "Non-Cash adjustment" of $1.35 to ALL checks, even before they know your form of payment. This was our bill from this past weekend. The waitress did not ask how we would be paying, just brought this check to our table, and when questioned, confirmed that the fee was added to ALL checks upfront, and only removed if someone pays cash. There are many issues with this- #1- I do not believe that every single cash payment has the fee removed unless questioned by the patron, so they are profiting on those checks. #2- This policy is NOT posted anywhere, and as a consumer in 2019, I should be made aware that there is an upcharge if I use the MOST common form of payment at this time. #3- Merchant fees are 3%. That means every check below $45 is charging MORE than 3%, so another way of padding the bottom line deceptively. #4- When you operate a business, there are expected costs involved, and merchant fees are part of it. Will we soon begin seeing an "Electricity fee" or "Water bill" fee? To handle this in this manner is shady, deceptive and shows very questionable ethics. #5- The legalities of this policy. Debit cards prohibit the charge of a surcharge, and guess what we paid with? Yep! A debit card! Also, Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover all require retailers to display a notice of the surcharge at the point of sale. As of our visit on 2/16/19, there was no notice. You are in violation of the surcharge regulations.
Also, if you will notice, my receipt also had a "$1.00" fee that had no description. I did not notice it until I got home, and I have no idea what it is for. Other than our 2 beers, we drank water and did not ask for any extras that could justify the charge. Maybe this is for the water bill?
As minor as this may seem to some people, this is a huge overstep by this business and should not be...
Read moreTitle: Extremely Disappointing Experience at Jefferson's I. Carrollton, GA
Rating: ★☆☆☆☆
I recently had an incredibly disappointing experience at Jefferson's I. Carrollton in Georgia. Unfortunately, the unprofessional behavior of the servers and the lack of attention we received as the only black couple in the restaurant left a lasting negative impression.
Upon arriving at the restaurant, we were immediately if we wanted to sit outside. There was no one out there but my wife and I. We we’re the only black couple there which kinda made us uncomfortable because of the looks we got when we got there.
After being seated, we patiently waited for a server to attend to us. However, despite our efforts to get their attention, our server completely ignored us throughout our entire visit. It was incredibly frustrating and disrespectful to be treated this way, as if our presence meant nothing to them. We waited for a full 20 minutes, desperately hoping for some acknowledgment, but it never came.
Finally, realizing that we were being blatantly disregarded, my wife and I decided to leave. As we got up from our table, our server casually told us to have a good night, with no hint of remorse or concern for the terrible service we had received. This lack of professionalism and empathy was deeply disheartening.
In an attempt to address the issue and express our dissatisfaction, we asked to speak to a manager. However, when the manager arrived, she looked disinterested and did nothing to accommodate our inconvenience. Her lackluster response and failure to take any action to rectify the situation only added to our disappointment.
It is truly disheartening to experience such blatant discrimination and poor service in this day and age. As paying customers, we expected to be treated with respect and courtesy, regardless of our race. Unfortunately, Jefferson's I. Carrollton failed to meet these basic expectations.
Based on our experience, I cannot recommend Jefferson's I. Carrollton in Georgia. The unprofessional behavior of the servers, the segregation we experienced, and the apathetic response from the manager left us deeply dissatisfied. We hope that the management takes this feedback seriously and implements the necessary changes to ensure that no customer has to endure such a negative experience...
Read moreMy husband and I just moved to the area and decided to try Jefferson's since it seemed like a "local" spot. When we arrived we placed our order for appetizers. I knew I wanted to try the baked oysters since it seemed the oysters and wings are what they are most known for. The waitress went to the kitchen and came right back to let me know they were out of oysters. I said I was disappointed as that's one of the reasons we chose to eat here. We decided to stay and try something different. She went back to the kitchen then came out and said "guess what, they found the oysters". Well, all of our food came out (philly with fries and a 5 piece wing with fries) and still no oysters. The waitress came out and said the kitchen got the oysters wrong, they thought they were raw but that they were cooking them now. When the oysters finally arrived, to say I was disappointed is an understatement. I ordered the baked which comes with Parmesan cheese, butter, and black pepper. As you can see in the picture the oysters were TINY, which is fine if they had been done right. There was no parmesan at all, no butter, and they were so caked with black pepper, they were inedible. Obviously the kitchen didn't want to deal with the oysters in the first place, but to send out what they did when oysters is something heavily advertised is crazy to me. Our waitress was a sweetheart and when my husband pointed out the mistake she offered to take them back and stake it off the bill. Which is fine but honestly I would have rather have had the oysters I ordered. The philly, wings, and fries were mediocre and but nothing to really rave about. Maybe the kitchen was just having an off day but we won't be returning anytime soon if that's the quality of food they serve. Really disappointed as we were looking for something right around the corner for a...
