I went in to get a cup of coffee this afternoon and had a bad experience. I'm a Disabled Afghanistan War Veteran and have a legitimate health condition which prevents me from wearing a facial covering. I fall into the category of "mask exemptions" which is outlined very clearly in the Governor's mandate. It states that people with disabilities are exempt. When I got in line I was asked by the gentleman working the register to put on a mask. I calmly explained to him that I have a disability and that according to the mask mandate I'm exempt. We went back and forth for a couple of minutes. He didnt seem to understand that the Governor put exemptions in for people like myself. I also was harassed by some of the other customers who treated me with contempt and anger even after they found out that I was just calmly explaining my rights. None of the customers would stop to even hear what I had to say. I kindly said I would leave, asked for the manager's name and left. Needless to say I will never go in there again and I will share what happened with anyone if they ask me about coffee places in Carson. Very sad that I was treated the way I was just because I was following the mandate exemption policy. I suffer from mental health issues from my service downrange and what happened today at Old World definitely doesn't help what I go through on a daily basis. What has happened to...
Read moreI hate to leave a bad review here. It’s the only slightly specialty coffee shop in Carson and the staff is very nice. However, it is always understaffed. Every day. During morning rush hours. Understaffed. The wait to order is always long. Additionally, the price is higher than almost any coffee shop I’ve ever been to. They are always out of drip coffee. Today, the barista added hot water to my drip coffee because it wasn’t a full cup. When I asked why they were doing that, they said they were also adding a half shot of espresso to balance it out. ¯(ツ)/¯
The manager of this location needs to be on site during morning coffee hours. A single barista cannot manage this alone. I’ve seen a single barista working here on Monday holidays. Huge (annoying) families descend on this place. They can’t even keep the drip coffee brewing. I have written emails of course with no response. Maybe...
