Wedding Review July 2024
Our experience as a couple from California having a destination wedding at Gorges Brewery using their outdoor tent venue with about 100 guests.
While there was a lot of good to say, the negatives are what we think will bring the most value to future couples. These are easily fixable issues by the management.
Day of the wedding:
-Event space & bathrooms were not cleaned prior to us setting up the morning of the wedding.
-Continuously empty water stations during a heat wave causing our guests to complain.
-The dinner buffet food trays went empty halfway through the food line and the staff had to go to the brewery to get more food in a van and drive it back to the tent. It was embarrassing for us that our guests couldn’t get food.
-Management did not tell us that the indoor brewery portion would be closed all day (Saturday) for a private event. We had guests show up early to have a beer and were turned away at the door.
-Short Staffed – they had 4 employees working our event of 100 guests. A staff member told us that two employees called out, so they were short staffed.
We do want to give a “Shout Out” to the staff working our event. They were awesome and we appreciated all their hard work.
Post Wedding:
-Travis Preece, the owner, sent us an email claiming we caused “1-2k” worth of damage and he doesn’t have our wedding insurance policy. (We emailed it to him 3 months prior in April). We addressed how we didn’t agree with most of the photos in our response. He claimed that the bride must be a liar about having wedding insurance and that we should just cut him a check for $580 and be done. We reiterated to him that the policy was already sent to him in April and that we hope to have a beer there again someday. His last response was that he found it, and he “never” wants to speak to us again.
For future couples, even though the venue and location are beautiful, the Gorges Brewery is not a 5-star venue & the owner needs to work on his...
Read moreMy wife and I visited Gorges Beer Co. last night for dinner and drinks. Before making the drive out there, I checked out their website and reviews of course. Fully aware of what we were expecting we made the trip.
The building itself was clean and clearly remolded or brand new. The art pieces on each floor and décor has a modern vibe, and we loved the wooded trees. We walked to the third floor to start off on the balcony before the sun went down.
We sat down and scanned the QR code to start ordering our flight. Some previous reviews talked about the annoyance of setting up an account prior to ordering. Well, it was a little annoying, but what account set up isn't? Once it was set up, boy was it easy to order after that and not waiting for a server or to pay was a breeze. Sorry to those who cannot use a smart phone, but its 2021 after all.... One observation is that you need to unselect to receive promotions from the business every time when ordering. Even though this is clever on the business side of things, it did become redundant after the 3rd time ordering. Later in the night, we tried out the shuffleboard and ordered from the bar downstairs without using the phone ordering and I will say it was easier just to order from my phone.
Now let’s talk food. We first order the fried brussels sprouts for an appetizer, and they did not disappoint. Next for dinner we ordered the chicken sandwich and fries + garlic/rosemary (it’s a must add). Both items were good, but if I had to make a critique the chicken sandwich would have benefited with a sauce.
We ordered our final beer at the upstairs bar on my phone and lucky it wasn’t too busy, because the QR we scanned in the beginning of the night was outside and that’s were the server tried taking our beer. Maybe have a QR scanner at the bar top?
Overall, we had a great time visiting Gorges Beer Co. and will be visiting again.
PS: I am requesting a POEM...
Read moreYou enter on the ground floor to NO ONE THERE. Then you notice the sign thats says, We are on 3rd. Floor. No good signage as to any ADA access. We wondered around and found a elevator finally (70 years old). Was rushed by a server who yells, Have you ever been here before? She went on to explain we could order from their menu w our phone or she could take our order. We ask if we could see a menu first. We had to ask about sitting on the patio. We were the only ones there. We ordered Mahi fish & chips. Asked how many filets, she said 2 big ones. When we tried to order a drink they were out of Coke. What? You have a bar here also but out of Coke. We drank water. As we were taking other people started showing up and they were getting busy for them I guess. As an x- bartender I was not happy to see 2 drunk men come in and be served more. Cascade Locks does not want this type of lawlessness here. Take it back to Hood River. The server comes out with fish tacos. No, sorry we ordered fish & chips. Im pretty sure I heard you say tacos. No, why would we ask how many filets? Off she goes. 20 mins later our order comes and it is trash. The fish & chips were so greasy there was oil pooled on the plate. Plus they were way over cooked and dark brown. The slaw was nothing more the rough chopped cabbage w lots of mayo with spice sprinkled in. Almost no flovor except mayo. One of the worst meals (not fit to eat and expensive) and serve ever. It an embarrassment to have the place in town. Ripping off the community here and the unsusepcting tourist. $32 dollars wasted. Save your money,...
