Cascade Locks Marine Park β€” Attraction in Cascade Locks

Name
Cascade Locks Marine Park
Description
The Cascade Locks and Canal was a navigation project on the Columbia River between the U.S. states of Oregon and Washington, completed in 1896. It allowed the steamboats of the Columbia River to bypass the Cascades Rapids, and thereby opened a passage from the lower parts of the river as far as The Dalles.

Scenario, I tent camped here arriving about 9pm.

Positive:

  1. Felt safe
  2. simple campground layout
  3. Google Maps takes you right there
  4. Clean and well kept
  5. First come first served (I camped on off season, October)
  6. RV sites are on the Columbia River, tent sites are 1 row off (behind RV sites)
  7. Tent sites were groomed grass with picnic table.
  8. Bathroom with regular plumbing was centrally located to all sites, RV or tent.
  9. Can self pay after hours
  10. Pets allowed on leash
  11. Easy access

Negative: (for tent camping, because that's what I did)

  1. Extremely loud with a train track 50-100ft away from campground. Freight train ran through at least 11 times from 9pm-7am. The ground I was sleeping on would shake it was so close.
  2. Road is also nearby so lots of road (not freeway) traffic.
  3. Only 1 night allowed by tent campers
  4. Tent sites are $21/ night (I felt that was expensive given the circumstances)
  5. Only 4 tent sites
  6. No shade or trees at tent sites, totally wide open between sites; tent & RV.
  7. I couldn't find any of the camping info online!!! β€’Do I need a reservation? β€’What's the cost? β€’Can I check in after hours? β€’Pets allowed? β€’Are there tent sites, what do they look like?! β€’Seasonal times/rates?

-Would I stay here again? Only if I didn't have another option... And didn't...

Went here to get a campsite while hiking the PCT. Saw on the Port of Cascade Locks website they had $5 sites for PCT hikers. As soon as I got here, about 5:30pm, the camp host started telling me there were no sites for PCT hikers and I had to pay $21 for a night. I mentioned the Port website didn’t say this. She told me the Port website didn’t matter. I tried to show the printed info in the Port website. She refused to look at it. Told me the info was there if I just looked around online for it. She made it my problem to find the correct printed info. She told me to pay $21 or leave. She was rude and argumentative from the minute I got there. She left me alone so I checked out their info board and found a flyer saying the PCT hikers camp closed on Sept 15th. This isn’t printed on the Port website that I could see. If you’re on the PCT late don’t stop here looking for a warm shower or a friendly camp host. You’re not welcome. I’ve been here other times and it was great!!! I was really looking forward to the warm shower and a short walk to the bus stop into Portland the...

Edit: I sent an email to the port and got a lovely message back with an apology. I really appreciate it! The campground itself is lovely.

My one star review of the campground is because the Port has inaccurate and misleading information on their website. The campground is lovely - I came here to check my systems and dewinterize in prep for the upcoming camping season. I scoured the website to make sure they had a dump station. Check. I paid $40 per night (which I though was high but worth it) and the confirmation email gave me a code to the shower house which reviews stated were great! Imagine my disappointment when I got here to find the restrooms and showers closed for the season! Then to top it off, I drove into the dump station today to empty my very full tanks after filling them to dewinterize - and the lid to the dump is padlocked!! Huge bummer. Just be honest Port of Cascade Locks! Tell campers clearly via your website and in the confirmation email what to expect. Now I’m heading off to find a dump station as I slosh down...
