Food was delicious, as always, but the experience wasn’t quite what I expected.
Having worked for Dickey’s BBQ throughout college in Laramie, I was looking forward to the familiar counter-service experience. Dickey’s is known for its casual, interactive style where you watch your meat being cut and choose sides right at the counter. Unfortunately, this new Casper location took a different approach, opting for full-service dining instead.
Personally, I think this change takes away from the charm that makes Dickey’s special. For many customers, the experience is half the enjoyment—it’s what makes the food taste even better.
Casper has a tough restaurant scene, with few local places staying open long-term. This location runs with a full staff of servers instead of the usual three-person shift you’d see at other Dickey’s. It felt like a wasted expense, especially since the staff seemed undertrained. Here were some of the issues we ran into:
• Kids’ Menu Confusion: When I ordered a kids’ meal for my daughter, I was told it didn’t come with toast. I had to point out that it’s clearly listed on the menu. • Seating Issues: They didn’t seem to have booster seats for young children or failed to offer one, despite us dining with toddlers. • Flies Inside: For a brand-new establishment, there were several flies inside the dining area, which was unpleasant. • Kids’ Drink Promotion Missed: Instead of giving us the signature kids’ yellow cup that comes with the meal, they brought out plastic cups of lemonade. • Limited Self-Service Options: I enjoy being able to refill my own drink at Dickey’s, but here, refills depended on the server’s timing. • Sauce Portions: While the sauces tasted great, they served only minimal portions. I expected full bottles on the table as you’d find in other locations, but that wasn’t the case.
Despite these hiccups, the food was still fantastic and reasonably priced for the quality. I remain a fan of Dickey’s but will be sticking to the counter-service experience I know and love at the Laramie location, 237...
Read moreThis place has potential. We will let them work the kinks out before going back though. Last night at about 6 pm I walked in to grab a to-go order. The door, handle and windows were completely covered in grease and BBQ sauce. The floors were disgusting. The table that held the BBQ sauce was crusty and foul looking. Everything looked dingy and dirty, yet when you walk up to the counter there is always 4 people just standing there, hanging out, staring at you awkwardly. Had i sat in to eat not one person would of gotten a tip, because if you don't care about the atmosphere or service you're giving, I don't care to tip. Lol as I was paying, someone else walked in the building which was completely empty, the gal behind the count SCREAMED "HEY GUYS TO GO OR IN" the patron screamed back "NO THANKS!" and walked out, which caused all employees to laugh and giggle. Like its funny this brand new 3 star rating business is already tanking. The irony of laughing at your paycheck as it walks out the building. Management better get it together, or they will find out as so many restaurants have before them that service matters! Like I said, this place has potential. But Casper isn't very forgiving so we will see. The only part of my Dickeys experience that didn't suck was the price, but honestly? Its cheap but an honest review on the food would be the portions are tiny, beans were cold and undercooked, the brisket was super hard or fatty. The pulled pork was incredible though. Hope you guys actually take time to read these reviews because as an avid dickey's fan I can't wait to try this down the road and see...
Read moreSecond Visit here in Casper. First one we ate in and everything was fine. We have been to multiple Dickey's in different states and this one has to be the worst. We got this visit to go due to a time crunch. First we were charge extra for just asking for barbecue sauce, pickles and onions. If we would have eaten in the restaurant it's on the unlimited on the table. Also was charged for pickles and onions. We have lived all over the US including Texas and never been charged for these. Barbecues is not the same without sauce, pickles and onions. Also I ordered a sandwich and the bread was stale and hard, not toasted or buttered as described on the menu. The sliced brisket was dry like it had been sitting in a warmer for hours. Too bad the other Dickey's we have been to are good. This one is not living up to the Dickey's name. Brian fixed the problem and took care of us. Good response and better experience thank you for handling the problem in a quick and efficient manner. Food and service was great this visit. We...
