Took my kids here tonight and was completely let down. I ordered edamame, egg rolls, two plates of chicken fried rice (for each kid), a spicy tuna roll, and a special roll they called the Ninja. For drinks, each child had a water and I ordered a Coke.
I found out only after my "Coke" arrived, that the restaurant sold Pepsi products; the "Coke" was a little weak/flat. I didn't get irritated at this, because plenty of people see both products as the same thing and can't distinguish a difference, but I can. I was going to let it slide, however, after drinking half of my Pepsi, the waiter took my cup and NEVER BROUGHT IT BACK.
Before the drink debacle started, he brought out the egg rolls, so my kids and I could start munching, and then soon followed that with the plates of rice and my spicy tuna.
Here is where the irritation starts.
For one, I am hardly a sushi snob, but when it comes to presentation I do have a few standards that I adhere to. First and foremost, the sushi better at least look like the chef cared a little. A spicy tuna roll should not look like a mound of ground raw fish with some sticky rice thrown at it. Also, I should be able to easily pick up a roll and not have it immediately start disintegrating. That's what happened however. The Ninja roll came out after I was two bites into my poorly put together spicy tuna roll. While the presentation was better here, the taste was not.
While staring at my disappointing sushi, I thought to myself, "At least I have my weak Coke...". Only I didn't. This is when I realized that my cup had been hijacked, never to return. I ended up waving down another server, and telling her that my original waiter took my Coke and never came back. She informed me that they only served Pepsi products, and was confused when I told her that I knew that after the first sip.
She got a me a whole new "Coke". I tried to take a nice long drink to wash down the nasty Ninja roll that I had only taken two bites of, but the draw just made an airy noise. The new "Coke" came with a split straw.
At this point, I'd had it, but my son, always one to add insult to injury reminded me that we never got our edamame. When the bill came... it was on there.
I didn't hassle the servers, or complain, although they did end up taking off the edamame that we never received. The server didn't get a tip from me, which I almost feel bad about because I ALWAYS tip well.
AVOID THIS PLACE. IT DOES NOT DESERVE 4 1/2 STARS. IF THIS IS THE BEST SAN ANTONIO HAS TO OFFER THAN I'M...
Read moreI had only ever ordered to go through a delivery service from here, and the food has been tasty! Last week my husband and I made a reservation for a teppanyaki dinner, and were very excited, but upon arrival we (and another family who had also made reservations) were told by a manager "I know it's frustrating that you made a reservation, but we weren't expecting to be this busy tonight, so it's going to be a 45 minute wait". I get it, it happens, we decided we'd try another time because we were really hungry and didn't really want to wait that long.
Tonight I decided to place a to go order directly from the restaurant so I could pick it up on the way home. I couldn't get through because the line was busy, so I figured they were just busy and I could stop by in person. There is little to no waiting area when you arrive, and a sign that asks you to wait to be seated. I waited for someone to greet me, or even just acknowledge my presence, but no one did. They were busy, but the obvious problem was lack of staff on a Saturday evening. Other than the teppanyaki and sushi chefs, there were only two servers and a woman who (based on the photo on the wall) I assume to be the owner. The owner never looked up from where she stood to acknowledge me, or the three other parties waiting to be greeted. I stood in the same spot for 40 minutes before I finally decided to try somewhere else because of the wait, and the conditions of the place. In that 40 minutes I got a chance to look around and see where my previous takeout deliveries had been prepared. It's messy, with trash on the floors, and especially behind the counters near the sushi prep area. There were dirty rags on the soda machine behind the counter. The servers were very clearly busting their butts trying to get everyone taken care of, while the owner just stood there looking at the same to go tickets that sat on the counter the entire time. She didn't even greet anyone.
If you're planning on trying this place out, make sure you're willing to wait possibly an hour, or have a backup plan. The food is yummy, but after seeing where it's made... I...
Read moreAll I have to say is how highly disappointed I was at this restaurant tonight. First off we walk in and tell them we have 4 for the hibachi table, Myself, my husband, my 11 year old daughter and my 2 year old daughter. We were seated at a table with a few other people (not a problem) but there weren't enough plates, no big deal...then when taking out order we ordered our food and edamame to hold us over and included 3 orders of fried rice. Then the waitress brings out our soup which was scolding hot...way way to hot to drink...my 2 year old hit her plate and knocked over my 11 year olds soup which caused to to spill all over my 2 daughters but mostly my 2 year old which resulted in burning her. The main lady (manger or owner maybe) came over and said ok and walked away...My screaming baby in my arms and no one came to help, say sorry or even help clean up the mess. then the food started getting cooked...apparently the waitress only wrote down that we ordered 1 fried rice so the cook only made 1....when we asked he said he was only told about 1 and even showed us. so we said ok and delt. then our edamame comes out and isn't even fully cooked and is cold. My husband asked for a plate and the waitress brings him a tiny plate (he never received a regular plate when we sat down) then asking for for forks and chopsticks when our food had already been in front of us. And don't even get me started on our check...she gave us the wrong check 4 times and when trying to pay it took another 15 minutes just to get her to take my card. I spent $60 on dinner and received the worst possible customer service. and the crazy parts it wasn't that busy. If I could give them less than 1...
