I want to start by saying the our meal at Schooners was great. Even to go, our steaks were perfectly cooked, hot and delicious. Also, the young lady working the to go counter (even though she was getting slammed) was really nice and very patient with the hordes of people in line.
Now for what cost them three stars... One of the children they have working at reception / bussing tables needs to be fired. She is either family of the owner or the manager doesn't know how terrible she is. When we walked up to put our names on the list for a table I was told it would be "an hour wait...maybe two." I was surprised at the lack of precision in her estimate so I repeated it back to her. She responded "well you could go somewhere else." I let her know that maybe we would but to put my name on the list anyway.
While my wife and I were talking over our options I over heard a server telling someone about the to go counter in the back. We happily took advantage of this. Why did the receptionist/busser not tell me about it? The answer is simple, she's a terrible employee.
So we placed our order at the back window and started to people watch. We thought, what goes better with people watching than I cocktail? We headed towards the stairs that lead up to the bar to see about a drink. When I rounded the base of the stairs the same young girl asked bluntly "how can I help you?" I started to explain that we wanted to get a drink while we waited for our food but I wasn't allowed to finish before she started into some rehearsed line about the governor closing bars. Again, I tried to explain and again she interrupted with the same uninformed line. My wife tried...denied again. At that point we realized that she was not interested in providing any customer service so I wished her a good evening. She responded sharply "You too!"
We went and got a drink at the convenience store down the way satisfied with the knowledge that we would soon be eating delicious steak and lobster and should would still be miserable in her job.
As I close what I'm sure is my longest review ever, I actually hope that she isn't fired. I hope that she stays in her position there at Schooners because the miserly that she suffers every night really is a better punishment.
I almost forgot to mention. We saw dolphins as we ate our meal on the beach. It was really a...
Read moreI’m local so this isn’t how I like to rate restaurants especially ones that are mom n pops type of places but the service here was awful today. I’ve been to this restaurant at least 5 times in the past year and have always brought my 5 pound Pom to sit with. Today was no different except I was told after sitting myself on the patio by a waitress setting the table this place ISNT pet friendly and that another restaurant Duckies (?!) is. Okay fine, policy might have changed and I’m not one to insist so we went and put our pooch in the car and came back after deciding to start by ordering drinks and then after a moment ordering food depending on how pooch was doing in car so we sat down. Again at the same table. When we ordered a beer and ice tea and when they were brought out and waiter asked about food. Gave him explanation and was told “This table is NOT for drinks only and you didn’t reserve this table.” There is a Large sign stating “Seat Yourself” at the stairwell so I’m not sure about the reservation and this is the first time I’ve heard of this table being a special one that required both food and drinks...No problem Schooners, again I would have understood if the place was hopping busy and patio tables were a limited commodity but the place was empty and it was later in the day so no potential lunch crush this Thursday in Cayucos. We drank our 2 drinks paid, tipped a little and will NOT be coming back! Lots of other options even in small town Cayucos. We went to the SmokeHouse has some awesome Sandos and tacos on the...
Read moreDrove 45 minutes to have dinner here to celebrate a friends birthday. We were sat upstairs in a table closest to the viewing area, outside. We ordered 3 glasses of wine and then ordered our main entrees. We ordered the crab cakes, the grilled salmon ceasar, and the wild caught fish, salmon, at market price. All of our dishes were delicious. Fish was very tasteful with the appropriate sauces for each dish. The corn relish with the crab cakes was paired perfectly. There were some mistakes with our order but it was fixed immediately. Dinner was actually very nice with great food and a beautiful view, service was good also. We were given our bill and we paid immediately. As we sat finishing our drinks, the hostess, Mia, requested that we get our drinks and move to the bar. Bar was crowded and loud. She stated that there was a reservation for our table. This was not expressed to us when we 1st sat down. As I visit places to review, I make notes throughout my meal. This restaurant had 5 stars until Mia told us to move on. She made me feel that since we had eaten and paid, it was time for us to move on. Well, we hadn't even discussed dessert but we sure did want more wine. This was a bit humiliating to my guests and myself. I loved the food here but because of how this was handled, I will not return. This could have been handled more...
