I will start by saying I was a little happy to be trying a new place. Three adults and 2 children came in for breakfast/lunch around 11:30 am on November 22, 2023. We were sat very quickly, got our drinks except for the cup of ice we asked for was brought to us and was said they would bring it and our order taken, all is well as we sat and looked at the decor and played games with the kids to pass time. About 45 min later another table with 3 adults was seated near us (that will be important information later on). After an hour we got our cold food, that's right we had ordered hot food except for 1 cold dry blt sandwhich but it all came out cold not to mention the toast that was ordered wasnt brought to us without us having to ask and the butter wouldnt even melt on the toast thats how cold it was. Not one single person came to our table to see how things were or if we needed refills, a coffee cup was held up as a sign that we wanted more coffee. Now as mentioned before a tabletop of 3 was sat about 45 mins after we were and even after we had placed our order and guess what happened they got thier nice hot food about 10 min after us. We put on our jackets and sunglasses and stacked our plates as a sign that we were ready to go in hopes of getting noticed so we could pay and go, nope that didn't work but when they mother of the 2 children got up to take the kids outside were getting restless the "server" who took our order made a dash for the register and said to the mother I have your check here, really like she was trying to dine n dash meanwhile there are still the other two adults waiting for the check, finally we just go up to the counter to pay because it became apparent the check wasn't coming to the table. We were told how the Cafe wasn't prepared for the other popular breakfast restaurant was closed and everyone came here, and there are only two servers and normally we have more help with drinks and blah blah blah yada yada. But she surly must not have realized we had been in the restaurant for well over and hr and saw how many times the servers went to the other tables. She apologized and said we need to give them another chance. I replied that's a hard sell because I wouldn't be recommending the Cafe. Unless I was mad at someone and wanted to...

Read morePreface- I am not a fan of diner food ( Oscar's in Durango CO is the only exception)- so i want to say that a 4 star review for diner food is really high for me. And if you are a traditional diner food fan you will love this and I recommend trying it.
The service is great. There is definitely a personality here and very dedicated staff. I decided to try Amber Kay's cafe because it has good biscuits and gravy reviews. It was a traditional biscuits and gravy- peppered with light sausage. It wasn't over seasoned ( I needed to add a little more salt and pepper). Biscuit was warm, gravy was whole ( not broken- a sign that it was prepared well).
The potato hash tasted a little to oily for me and need a little more internal crispiness and seasoning ( remember how i mentioned i am not a fan of diner food? Slight crisp slight squish is a Hallmark of diner's, so i am not knocking it just saying it's not for me). I think that maybe getting onion powder or garlic would be really good in the hash.
Again, very traditional diner food. Large portions good prices. Intentionally under seasoned so you add your own salt. Not for me but very solid...
