I have had around 15 pies from this place so far. Pies are one of my all-time favorite desserts. I prefer pie over cake or cookies. If you're looking for a cute, local, and delicious spot this is it. As a self-proclaimed pie connoisseur I do have personal opinions and preferences I would like to share.
First let me start by explaining how I rate food. I rate things on a 0-10 scale with the scale expressing whether I like or dislike something. Meaning a 5/10 is completely neutral neither like nor dislike. Five is mid. Anything below a 5 is some degree of dislike and anything above a 5 is some degree of like. 10=perfect, 9=outstanding, 8=great, 7=good, 6=okay, 5=neutral, 4="meh", 3=bad, 2=very bad, 1=horrible, 0=perfectly bad.
First I'd like to get their crust out of the way. Their crust is hands down the best pie crust I have ever had! I don't know how they do it but they're standard crust is so perfectly flaky, buttery, and crisp. It closely resembles and reminds me of a good cheesecake graham cracker crust but is definitely not graham cracker. I have a new craving in my life and it's this crust.
Now on to the pies. The majority of the 15 pies I have had from pie crumbs have been above 5 (meaning some degree of liking). Let's start with their fruit pies. The fruit pies are some of the best fruit pies I have ever had. They really shine with fruit pie here. I've had the peach (8.5/10) and the berry (9/10).
Next their cream and tart pies. I feel very mixed about their cream pies. My personal preference in cream pie is for it to lean more creamy, fluffy, and airy. Pie crumbs cream pies are very pudding forward. They can feel thick and dense rather than airy and fluffy. I personally would like to see the pudding gently incorporated into their whipped cream to give it the perfect "cream" texture. If whipped cream and pudding were incorporated together it would take their cream pies to another level for me! Also from my experience of having two banana cream pies at different times the banana flavor was slightly too pungent and ripe. Very brown banana tasting. Also in my experience the coconut cream pie was the same. Something about the coconut flavor in the pudding was slightly too strong almost like an essential oil fragrant perfumey taste in the mouth. Both the banana cream and coconut cream pies are somewhere around 5-6/10. The lemon (9/10) and key lime pies (8/10) however have the perfect lemon lime flavor. Both were absolutely delightful! I will be getting each of those again. The berry creampie (7.5/10) felt solidly good but no higher. The berry mix, true to the greatness of their fruit pies, was delicious but the dense pudding base was not preferable while still being enjoyed. I have bought the mixed berry cream pie twice. The Custard pie (3/10) is the one pie that was a negative experience for me. Bad enough that I did not finish it. I enjoy custard pie however this pie clearly had an overcooked custard. The scrambled eggy taste was prominent and I could feel the grainy bits of cooked egg in the pie.
Lastly the pie presentation is wonderful. They're large pies look nice and standard and their personal pies are very cute and inviting.
Overall as a pie lover I greatly enjoy this place in my town. It's nice to branch out of the traditional dessert shop options. There's plenty of ice cream shops, bakeries with cakes and brownies, and cookie spots in Utah. A pie place is a much-needed gap in the dessert shop market and pie crumbs delivers! I will be going back and I would recommend pie crumbs with some of my caveats around their dense pudding cream pies. I'm very excited to try the rest of the flavors I have not yet. I absolutely love to see a cute, enjoyable, local small business with a good product.
P.S. as a pie aficionado I believe one major pie category is being forgotten at pie crumbs. I believe the mighty CHEESECAKE is a pie! I want to put it out there that I would be elated if they perfected one or two simple cheesecakes and added them to...
Read moreThis is the cutest little shop in Cedar! I am so impressed with the owner, she has obviously been working so hard to make a stunning atmosphere. It felt a smidge cramped, but that is the only flaw with this place! As for what really matters, the service is phenomenal. The owner was kind and friendly. As life happens, her only other worker got sick prior this week and needed a few days off. So the owner was doing it all on her own and taking the best care of my wife and I! Now what we all came here for, the PIE! We got a chocolate cream pie, and a day old banana cream pie. I normally do not go for a cream filled pie, but it was what we were suggested to grab. Let me tell you, they were absolutely delicious! Her crust is flakey, and just the perfect flavor/texture! What was most impressive was the fact that the banana pie kept its flakey crust and the sweet filling was sooo delicious! Now, to say the chocolate pie was divine is an understatement. In my opinion, chocolate anything can either be overly sweet or too rich. The filling on this pie was delicious. It was the perfect level of sweet and richness. I could eat this pie forever. If I were anyone looking for a perfect desert, I would go here. There is no better pie/dessert in all of southern Utah. And I would say that I am a quality judge of dessert in SO, as I am a fairly local and have had way too many sweets and...
Read moreIt’s been 16 years since my mother-in-law passed, and in all that time I never thought I’d taste an apple pie that could measure up to hers. But Pie Crumbs in Cedar City changed that. Their apple pie is, without question, the best I’ve had since hers—and maybe the best I’ve ever eaten.
The crust is everything you hope for: buttery, flaky, and melt-in-your-mouth perfect. The filling is balanced just right—tender apples, not too sweet, not too tart, with that warm spice that makes every bite feel like home. And don’t even think of spoiling your taste buds with ice cream👎🏻
I’ll be honest—it actually brought a tear to my eye. It reminded me of family, of her, and of the love that went into every pie she baked. Pie Crumbs didn’t just serve dessert—they brought back a memory I’ve been missing for years. No better way to enjoy the cabin and mountains...
