My friends and I stopped by for a drink and bite to eat near closing tonight. We completely understand that it’s the end of a long day for y'all and respect that. However, it’s important to share an experience that left us feeling very uncomfortable and disrespected.
When we arrived, we asked to be seated on the patio and asked if vaping was allowed. We were told yes, and we began vaping fairly respectfully, for about 30 minutes with no issue. When our third guest joined us (who also vapes), a waitress came over. While I don’t know her name, I remember she was very pretty and had pretty makeup. She said, “Hey, I hate to be this person, but my table over there is kind of allergic to vapes… well not really allergic, they just don’t like it. So can y’all not vape?”
Of course, we agreed without wanting to cause a scene. However, I want to point out how inappropriate and unprofessional that was. As someone who works in the service industry as both a server and bartender, I would never ask a table in a designated smoking/vaping area to stop simply because another guest chose to sit there and doesn’t like it. That’s not how boundaries or hospitality work — especially when we were told it was allowed.
To make matters worse, after we left and were discussing it, my friends told me they believe someone at the other table may have been filming us during the interaction, which is completely unacceptable. Before leaving, it seemed that the server and the other table were having a very friendly, possibly familiar conversation — whether friends or not, it felt incredibly biased.
I’m a born and raised Austinite and have support Chuy’s for since I was a baby. I’ve had friends work here, and I’ve always had great experiences, hell I even had my first tortilla at Chuy’s off Jollyville. But tonight was disappointing and unprofessional, and it’s made me reconsider returning any time soon.
I do want to highlight that our server, Gaby, was amazing — incredibly professional, attentive, and kind throughout our visit. I truly hope she wasn’t negatively impacted by this situation and that she had a smooth rest of her night.
I say all this not to cause issues but because I believe in holding establishments we care about to a higher standard. Please consider using this as a training moment — your guests and your staff both deserve better communication, clearer policies, and more respectful...

Cleanliness:
My wife had to use the restroom and was not able to due to the long line for 1 stall. 2 of the 3 stalls were not being used as the toilets were covered in blood.
While dining (indoors), there were flies (counted 6) that were constantly irritating multiple tables.
Service:
Upon entering there was an estimated 10-15 minute wait to which my wife and I gave the gentleman our phone number and name. 10 minutes turned into 25 and new guests would enter and get seated immediately, to the point where one family came in to ask if there was a wait and the gentleman told them no and seated them immediately.
After this happened a couple times, the gentleman finally realized that we were still waiting and apologized for not registering us in the virtual wait line. Fine that's okay, everyone makes mistakes.
After being seated, we again had to wait for 15 minutes before our waitress finally acknowledged us and brought us chips. We finished the basket of chips to which our waitress refilled, and continued to disappear (we still have not ordered anything). After 30 minutes of being at the table, our waitress finally came to take our order.
Thankfully the food was good.
Long story short, go to Lupe Tortilla...
Read moreThis is probably the most satisfying review I have ever posted. Great food and awesome service is only part of why I am writing this review. First off, I want to say THANK YOU to the management of this Chuys. We noticed that a table close to us had kids sitting and being very quiet and were minding their own business. A couple of waitresses were stopping by periodically and checking on them. I realized that they were their kids. I asked our waitress if she was one of the single moms. Not only was her service amazing, she said she was so grateful to be able to take her kid to work with her. She said that she was homeschooling and if she took them to daycare, she would simply be working just to pay for that and could never make ends meet. We understood completely and we told her that we were especially happy to see establishments helping people out in this way. Kindness and willingness of this management team to help their staff is absolutely refreshing to witness. This Chuys has won our business over and now has a customer for life. We will now be driving farther to eat there, but that is a small thing. We will be supporting this restaurant every chance we get. Bravo to the love and support these people show to their staff! See...
