Remembering The Halal Guys craze a few years ago, where locations were opening here & there, long lines awaiting all who swung by, I've been reluctant to come by. Even when a location opened in Cerritos, hesitancy prevailed. Hearing about The Halal Guys app & rewards, I finally capitulated, stopping by after the gym for my first try of one of their platters, compliments of The Halal Guys
Zesty lamb/beef gyro platter- Opting for less rice, more lettuce & tomatoes, plus bell peppers & onions, I should've done the opposite. The rice was the highlight of the comp meal. The cumin & turmeric provided great flavor to the fluffy rice. The limited time only zesty lamb reminded me of birria. The beef gyro was rather dry & hard. The liberal slathering of the creamy white sauce helped alleviate that. I don't particularly care for iceberg lettuce, believing having an option for spring mix or spinach would be more ideal. Plus, that hot sauce! It's nuclear hot! This, coming from a guy who tolerates a good amount of heat. Use sparingly. You've been warned.
Service was good. I was greeted as I arrived, and being the only customer, my platter was assembled in no time. A good amount of tables for dining in, with a few al fresco, as well. The Halal Guys is located at the busy Cerritos Promenade, in between Jamba Juice & El Rocoto. Parking is usually difficult, especially during lunch & dinner hours.
I left The Halal Guys stuffed, and that's always a good thing. While I'd prefer other greens over iceberg lettuce, the rice was delicious. The lamb & gyro were decent, moreso the former than the latter. I'd like to give their chicken & falafel a shot next time I happen to come by. Of course, doused in a heaping helping of white sauce, a bit of hot sauce...
Read moreAfter a terrible experience at the Rowland Heights location, decided to go to this one instead. I am glad! They know what they are doing here. Clearly, management is more sensible and applies proper measures to protect themselves and patrons.
Pandemic measures implemented line barrier set up for ordering and online order pick up marked spaces innline to ensure distancing between patrons single chairs with covid signs spaced out for those who want to sit and wait for their orders posted signs on door of mandatory masks required contactless payment terminal (Samsung pay, Google pay, not sure on Apple Pay) order counter has door held open preventing any physical contact
Visited 12/17/20. Mobile order pick up. Stood in line at the marked distance spaces. Got to the front but order was not ready at the given pick up time. Took about extra 7 minutes to be done but it was fresh. Was able to redeem Yelp check-in free fries with platter purchase since not able to claim in the app. The staff member was courteous and allowed redemption. Might be why my order took a bit longer to receive because of the fries. It was made exactly as ordered yay!
I saw 2 customers in line while I was waiting away from the line. They were the only ones in line but they crowded the front of the line at the cashier. They should have waited in the marked spaces in line and wait to be called up to place their orders. These customers were not distancing themselves! I think Halal Guys staff should remind customers to please stand behind the line until called to step up for order especially when the cashier is juggling taking new orders and handing out finished orders. Since these customers were crowding the front, they were too close to the cashier when she was calling orders for pick up. That's not very safe and could easily...
Read moreFood is not bad, nothig special, and not like the original Halal guys from NYC, but it's acceptable..Lady working at the counter was nice, polite, and the place was clean..I usually don't give one star reviews often, when i am not satisfied, just don't even leave the review, but this place really crossed the line..I used to eat a lot of Halal guys back in the days i used to live in NYC, where this was once affordable street food, nothing like this fancy franchise BS,expensive as hell..The price of a platter is a way too high, for the amount and the quality of food you're getting. Ok,i can understand, but the side portion of hummus is outrageous..Such a robbery..The cup on the photo wasn't even a quarter full, literally one scoop of the hummus inside, and the price was 5.95$..Absolutely ridiculous price.. Falafel costs more than one dollar a piece..I would say probably the most expensive falafel in USA, and not even close to the quality of falafel elsewhere.. Not to mention that the large platter i took, was almost half empty.. They should name it as a MICRO platter..I spent 26.10$,and i literally left the place hungry.. Place is such an armed robbery..😌 Actually, i was waiting for them to start charging me for the air i was breathing inside,as i was dining in.. Franchise Halal guys, never again, it's actually the biggest scam among the street food franchises.. Typical place, which from the great food truck, went downhill big time.. Such a poor business strategy with a greedy owners, offering you the plates which keep getting smaller every time you come, but with a hefty price tag.. This has nothing to do with the original Halal guys.Unfortunately all the franchises HG have the similar issue, absolutely overpriced and lack of quality..Not to mention the size of the...
