Las Palmas Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Champaign

Las Palmas has been our favorite Mexican restaurant since it opened. the food has always been very good, prices reasonable, and service was good. Unfortunately after eating there on May 29, 2025, my husband, my granddaughter, and I left the restaurant feeling very uncomfortable after an exchange we had with our server. My husband and I have been served by this gentleman many times before when we've gone in there by ourselves. This was the first time we took our 19 year-old granddaughter with us. The server came over after we ate to give us our bill and he started, in our opinion, an inappropriate conversation directed toward our granddaughter. At first I thought he was being friendly since he's waited on us before and this time our granddaughter was with us. He asked who she was and her name. It started getting weird when he asked if she was married. When she said no he then asked if she had a boyfriend. She said no and he responded that he was looking for a girlfriend. He then asked if she planned on getting married after college. He kept saying how hard it was for him to find a girlfriend. He was openly "hitting" on her and, even though it was obvious she was not interested, continued to push and ask about her dating/marital plans. It was a creepy and weird exchange and made us all feel...

This place has really good food. That being said...the drinks on the other hand are not. I ordered a Moscow Mule first because it said it was a new drink in the menu. It should have been a major red flag to me when the waiter looked very confused and I had to show it to him on the menu. The drink was served in a tall glass which is no biggie but it was not good. AT ALL. I never send drinks back but I just couldn't do it so I asked for a strawberry margarita instead. It's a Mexican restaurant...of course it's going to be good right? No...I wondered why this place had so few customers when the food is really good. After ordering 2 drinks and not finishing the margarita, which I always do...I understand. My husband even tried to help with the margarita because who likes to waste money on a beverage but even he...

Our second time going , and I must say we did not have a good dinner . A party of 6 , all ordered different food and drinks , just for us to find hair in 3 plates. They got offensive and said everyone had their hair up when we clearly saw how female waitress had their hair down. Food comes out quick and hot, which that's a good thing . They do not pay attention to specific orders , I had asked for my dinner to no have onions and he added extra onions, my brother asked extra cheese on his nachos and they barely had any cheese , my husband asked for 2 sides of corn tortillas and they gave him flour, everybody does mistakes but for them to be working in a restaurant shouldn't have an attitude with customers when we point out simple things that can be fix. Sad , but 1 star is all...
