I can’t say enough about this place. 9 on 10 scale. Ordinarily I would never walk into a commercial barbecue business. I prefer small mom and pop shops, preferably with black people behind the counter and a pitmaster, However, this place is unique in so many ways (and it did happen to have a black pitmaster behind counter and I talked to him.) Before I go any further, let me give you a tip. Go to Rudy’s for breakfast and get one of the breakfast tacos they are wrapped and ready to go at the counter. You will not have to order. It won’t take anything but five minutes or less. Try everyone they have there. Some of the tacos come with sausage, bacon, or even brisket. I think they’re like three dollars or something like that. They’re cheaper than an egg McMuffin but fresh and they taste homemade. But the real treat is a dinner or lunch or whatever you wanna call it but go in there you gotta have the brisket but get it. “Wet.” When you ask what that means, they’re gonna say it’s brisket with a little bit more of the fat in it. The first time I went there I took this the wrong way because I don’t like fat on my meat so I got it lean without the fat. It was not very good just like a 90% lean hamburger. Trust me get the wet. The sausage is surprisingly good. I normally don’t like anything in my sausage like cheese and jalapeño so they allowed me to taste test and it was good. The turkey they give you in a turkey sandwich is breast meat that is juicy. I’m sure you’re not going to believe me so just try the turkey sandwich. The reason why I haven’t mentioned ribs or hot links or any of the normal barbecue stuff is I want you to try some of this other stuff that I would’ve never tried myself. I had a job where I had to eat out, so I tried everything on the menu several times. Don’t get any of the desserts. Your average white person will like them. However, They are not “Black people good.”🙂. The banana pudding had one piece of banana in it. The atmosphere is fantastic. Stay there, sit down at the picnic tables enjoy the free pickles and onions, etc. and watch the game. I...
Read moreWe ate at Rudy's "Country Store" and Bar-B-Q located at 7300 W Chandler Blvd, Chandler, AZ 85226 on a Sunday evening. We walked in the front door and were a little confused about where to go. An area that looks like it might be a gift shop was immediately to our left and it looked that’s where we should go to order food, but it just didn’t seem right, so we walked by it and then could see the counter in the back to the left. We looked at the menu board and didn’t see any way to order a full meal; only the meat dishes, side dishes, and drinks separately. The employee behind the counter confirmed that this is how it works. We ordered two Brisket Sandwiches and potato salad. The employee advised us to step to the refrigerated cooler to our left for cold sides. We grabbed the middle sized container for both of us to share, which the receipt shows as 1 pint. We also took two of the smallest sized drink cups from the stacks, which the receipt shows as medium. The total was $33.49. Our sandwiches were prepared behind the counter and presented to us in a carrying tray. We walked toward the drink station and poured lemonade in our cups. Adjacent to the drink station was an island with straws and plastic utensils. We looked around for barbecue sauce and an employee told us that we could find some at every table. We sat down at a table and dug into the food. The sandwiches were tasty and the potato salad was well-chilled. One of the other tables had two young children whose parents allowed to run and scream freely about the area. We can’t hold that against the restaurant, but it did take away from the dining experience. Another thing we didn’t care for was the music playing on the overhead speaker system which was from the country music genre. We’re not knocking it, but we just don’t care for that...
Read moreI was craving some Texas BBQ and saw that Rudy's had opened a new location on 1733 South Higley RD here in Mesa. When I arrived, Nancy welcomed me and inquired if this was my first visit, I told her it was. She then introduced me to Michael up at the main counter and asked him to provide me with a sample of moist brisket. It was fresh from the pit and had a wonderfully rich, smokey flavor and was very tender and juicy. Whoa, a bit of Texas Heaven! Michael kindly took my order. As I had already decided to take my food home and eat it for the next several meals. I ordered a half pound of moist brisket, a full Jalapeno sausage and a breakfast taco which had eggs, sauage and cheese.
I thanked Michael, Nancy and several other of their colleagues and took my carefully packaged food home.
The Jalapeno sausage was excellent and had just the right amount of spicy kick to it. I also sampled a bite of the breakfast taco and it was delicious as well. I added a bit of spicy hot salsa to it which rounded out the flavor well. Of course, I saved the best for last and had a slice of the sliced moist brisket. Boy, was it ever good! Again, rich smokey smell and taste was to die for, made all the better as it was still warm from my quick trip home. It was a piece of Texas Heaven! Michael also had provided me with some sliced white bread (they also have wheat bread) to go with my food. I also picked up a couple of small containers of Rudy's original BBQ sauce which was good.
The friendly and welcoming staff, combined with the authentic Texas BBQ really sealed the deal. Although I love Allison's Texas BBQ here in Mesa and they'll always be my favorite as I love the small, family owned place, it's enjoyable to try other places that offer good Texas BBQ. I'll be visiting Rudy's...
