Food: We came to Konnichiwa hungry and excited to try their food, but unfortunately, it didnât quite hit the mark. We ordered a variety of dishes: ⢠Spider Roll & Steak Roll: The sushi was the most decent part of the meal. Presentation was okay, but the taste was just average. The wasabi was strangely rolled into a ball, which felt unnecessary. ⢠Sesame Chicken Bowl: Very oily and lacked depth in flavor. It tasted like something you could make at home with a basic recipe. ⢠Ramen (only one on the menu): The presentation was poorâit looked like everything was just poured into a bowl without care. The broth was bland and uninspired. ⢠Miso Soup: Extremely bland, as if it came straight from an instant packet. ⢠Hot Tea: Served as a basic tea packet, nothing special.
The pricing was fair, with special sushi rolls ranging from $11 to $15, but the quality didnât match expectations.
Service:
The highlight of our visit was definitely the service. The staff was incredibly friendly, respectful, and attentive. They greeted us with a warm âKonnichiwaâ upon entry, which was a nice touch. They seemed genuinely invested in creating a good dining experience, and their hospitality was appreciated.
Atmosphere & Overall Experience:
The restaurant has an okay atmosphere, though it was very quiet when we visited on a Sunday. One thing that stood outâthough Iâm not sure whyâwas the motorcycle placed in front of the entrance. As a motorcycle guy, I liked it, but it felt out of place and random. That aside, the staff was in uniform, adding to the restaurantâs branding, and you can tell theyâre trying to create an immersive experience.
Final Thoughts:
Konnichiwa has great service and good intentions, but the food execution needs improvement. If youâre just looking for a quick, casual Asian meal without high expectations for flavor or presentation, this could work for you. However, if youâre looking for authentic, high-quality Japanese cuisine, this might not be the best choice.
Big thanks to the friendly staffâwe hope to see improvements in the food...
Read moreHi I really wanted to be able to get in touch with a manager but no one seemed to know how to do that when I called just now to the West Ashley location. I tried to send a message on Facebook to know avail and the servers unfortunately speak very little English. Every time I've been it's been completely empty for such a large restaurant but now I'm starting to figure out why because the food was so disappointing and the server was obnoxious and just told the sushi chef to make us three special rolls for me and my son. We Love sushi and have tried many restaurants in the area. But this was so disappointing and so unimpressive just covered in really bad sweet crab salad it did not taste fresh I could not eat it and I let the server know that and the chef then I ordered a vegetarian roll which was very mediocre at best and had half of the ingredients that it said it was supposed to have. Basically we felt sick afterward and not like you do after a healthy sushi meal and unfortunately I will say miso soup is one of the best indicators and my favorite but it was just salty and tasteless with no umami flavor and very little miso.even the green tea was extremely watered down and was flavorless nothing was discounted$80 wasted. Never again I really doubt this place will last very long! I feel bad because all of the workers there super nice except the server who kept making stupid jokes and did not listen to anything I was...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I live here in West Ashley and were excited to hear that a new sushi place was opening in the neighborhood! I had heard and read some good reviews so we decided to check it out. I don't give bad reviews often, but I agree with the other review below that how anyone could give this place 5 stars is beyond me.
The pros: The staff was very friendly and we were seated right away. The waiter came back to check on us reasonably often and made sure our drinks stayed full.
The cons: My boyfriend got a Sapporo on tap and commented that is tasted off, as if the beer was flat or the keg lines weren't clean. There was only 3 of us, and we ordered about 2 rolls each, nothing crazy, and it took quite a long time for our food to come out. Additionally, my boyfriend ordered a fried rice bowl that he described as tasting like it came directly out of the freezer aisle at a grocery store. So much to the point that he hardly ate any of it. The sushi itself was alright, didn't taste overly fresh or amazing. Hard to justify paying nearly $100 for two people for subpar food. We will...
