I booked this on a recommendation by a coworker for our 7 year anniversary. We arrived at 6pm and asked to be seated on the deck outside. The restaurant is beautiful, so is the view from the deck. Everyone was polite.
The host was extremely nervous and had a difficult time speaking to us, fumbling words. Same with the waitress. I get it, maybe you're new to fine dining and remembering what to say and so on, but for the price of the food, this place should have top tier service. At that time there were only 3 other tables filled in the entire restaurant.
Our waitress took our appetizer and main course order just after our drinks arrived. Our drinks arrived shortly after we arrived. We ordered the melon, prosciutto, brie and the scallops. The scallops were cold and raw inside. So, we had those returned. When they arrived again, they were burnt, dry and stringy. They were removed.
We waited until 7:30pm for our main course. We were only checked on once. My husband got up to let them know we were leaving, as we had not gotten our food, it arrived just then. At this point we were so hungry. The food tasted good, but definitely not $84 a plate good. I had the lobster, he had seafood pasta. Seemed like boxed pasta, and fake truffle oil. My broccolini was so tough, I could hardly cut through it.
My husband is a fine dining chef, so I know what 5 star should be. This was a big disappointment on a special night.
Plates were served on these odd plastic gold leaf plates. Literally your plate of food is served on top of this other plastic plate. The silverware was not polished, it was coated in some kind of black plating, scratched, watermarked and odd as well. Odd choice for fine dining.
During this entire time, other guests kept coming over right next to our table, to take business phone calls and argue with people on the phone. We asked them to please take their calls else where, as Yacht Haven Grande was mostly dead that evening and hardly anyone was around. So, it would be easy to step out front to take phone calls, away from other guests. If you have enough common sense to be polite to your family and leave to take a phone call, you could also do so for other guests trying to enjoy their meal. One guy got really crappy with us when we asked him to take his call elsewhere.
It felt like the entire staff was inexperienced, including the kitchen, and/or they lacked enough help in the kitchen.
We spoke to the GM several times and they comped drinks and app., but the whole experience was subpar. Sunset, best...
Read moreMy wife and I heard from someone on the island of Saint Thomas that this restaurant was an absolute MUST!! We also loved the fact that itâs Black-Owned. After reviewing the website/menu, our expectations were HIGH!!! Let me say this: Cutlass & Cane DID NOT Disappoint and they lived up to every expectation we had!!!
Upon entry, we were greeted MULTIPLE times by bar staff and wait staff. We had a 5:00pm reservation and arrived around 4:50pm. While the dining room was not open at the time we arrived, we were welcomed to the bar area where we were given menus to review. The Bar Attendant welcomed us again and we selected drinks with him. At 5:00pm we were promptly escorted to our seat which had an amazing views of the patio and marina. The Bar Attendant brought us our drinks which were absolutely amazing and refreshing.
Our waitress was very professional and welcomed us to the restaurant and told us about the specials. I had my mouth set for a particular menu item, but her descriptive presentation of the nightly specials swayed my decision. We were NOT disappointed at our dining selections. The portions were very as reasonably sized and the seafood was extremely Fresh!!! While we were eating, we were greeted by the owner of the restaurant which was a great addition to our experience. He told us the history of the building and celebrated my wife and I on our honeymoon.
After we finished our meal, we were surprised with a Happy Honeymoon dessert and two glasses of champagne compliments of the owner. It made for a very special evening. After paying for our meal, we were able to take pictures with the owner and he took pictures for us in front of the establishment. The ONLY complaint that I have is that we only ate there on our last day. We cannot wait...
