This week was my birthday I wanted to celebrate so instead of going to STK or steak 48 I decided to go to Bentley‘s. Everyone said they hadn’t been there and their menu looks delicious so I made a reservation for nine. We were told the reservation would require a 20% gratuity for the party size. Which is no problem because we’ve ate at plenty of fine dining establishments. Also, I work in service, so I know how to tip. On the day of the dinner only eight people arrived, we were asked to start at the bar while we waited for our party so we ordered drinks paid for them at the bar, and then moved to our table, which was right next to the bar. We was encouraged to order quickly because the kitchen stops taking orders at 9 PM so we ordered our food. We truly enjoyed our self and had a great time eating and dining. The check was almost $800 which is about right because we had eight people two in which did not eat they only ordered drinks because they came late when we received our printed check no gratuity was added which I thought was weird because most restaurants charge gratuity for parties of six or more. We paid on one card when we received our receipt the tip and total was hand written in by someone other than the card holder. And all my years of service and of dining I have never been to a restaurant where they filled out your receipt for you. We had planned to leave 2 to 300 for the tip but we didn’t even have a space to fill it in on the receipt because the staff had done it for us. If we wanted to leave more we would have had to ask for a whole new receipt. My whole table immediately was offended. Of course we are all BLACK/ AFRICAN AMERICAN. No one had ever seen a business fill out the customers receipt tip line and total for them. Everyone felt like they did that because we are black… it was so embarrassing and really disappointing after a night of laughs and fun!!! SMH so the next day I called to inquire about why wasn’t the gratuity calculated on the printed receipt and why did they sign it on our tip line…I receive a nasty attitude from the gentleman answering the phone refusing to put management on the phone also insisting that he told me the gratuity was 20% …like we was worried about gratuity or the price. Telling me my bank will clear the transaction in a few days!!! I never asked about the cost or my bank sir. I asked if your normal procedure was to prefill your customers merchant copy receipt. He was Clueless and unapologetic about stereotyping my party. We have ate at far better places with far better , food & service sir! The gratuity or price was not a problem … the problem came in when you decided to put on the tip line what you wanted.. the server Lost out on extra money and this business made a bad impression on the people who traveled from DC & Atlanta …Needless to say I won’t be back to this Resturant and I encourage black ppl to reconsider when making your...
Read moreHello my name is Director Shawnte Lawrence. I currently reside in Atlanta, Ga and was excited to be asked to join my sister for a Bentley Dining experience for her birthday. Honestly, after looking over the website and menu it made me more eager to join. When arriving to the location we were instructed to sit at the bar until the rest of our party arrived. I found that to be strange but why ruin a great time, right! Cool we ordered drinks which I must add mines taste like lemon water but why ruin what is supposedly is about to be a great dinning experience once we can get approved to sit at table that has been reserved for weeks. We paid for our drinks and shortly got seated. Due to it being a party of 9 and us having been blessed to eat at fine dining resturant in many states we were aware of gratuity. My sister has worked in service many years so we are deep into tipping over 20% only the right thing to do when someone provides fine dining service, Right. The food was decent while everything else around was rushed so 2 people was not able to place order they got drinks instead. The young lady didn’t make it more of an experience that would be from an Apple Bees establishment. It was great that she brought a piece of frozen desert out for my sister not verifying if she had allergies or now. She lit the candle when she placed a Pre filled out Check on the table. We didn’t understand because never In the years of dining have I had experienced someone writing in legal line of a check to authorize a payment in their handwriting! At that very moment it dawned on me that the Waitress assumed because of the color of our skin she would not get tipped. This has me highly offended to the point I’m going to reach the stars to report this act of services. My entire family and friend attended were highly add ended and this act of racism is not acceptable and I advise every African American to rethink investing their funds into service such as this and treatment such as this. I will contacting news press in the area to investigate This because this seems to become a normal that needs to be stopped! I do not recommend this...
Read moreTLDR: Its very expensive, but if it's in your price range, this is one of the best restaurants in charlotte. Dress code is business casual. Great for special occasions if its in your price range. I didn't know anything qbout Bently's other than being told its 5 star plus. An apt description, the dress code is business casual, we went on a wednesday night and not knowing the dress code i wore nice jeans, a nice top and generally looked very put together, but i won't wear jeans if i go again. No one said anything but this is q restaurant where the wait stuff pulls out chairs for the ladies and puts napkins in your lap with a full table setting. Drinks average about $20 and entrees are all $50 to $100 dollars. That being said, its well worth every penny. Our party of 5 shared several appetizers, may favorites were the lobster mac and cheese and the calamari. The oysters were a close second and everything was prepared perfectly. 1 appetizer is enough for 2 people but lqrger parties should order more. We shared appetizers, each got a salad or soup and struggled (or weren't able) to finish our entrees and pecked at desserts. I had the lamb chops and they were the best ive ever had. My partner and another party got the bourbon filet and it is an experience! I wont ruin the surprise but if you like steak, give it a try! It was a huge hit. The drinks were strong but delicious and i dream of actually having an appetite for their desserts. They were delicious! The interior is gorgeous and this is top of my list for any future special occasions. The meal was at least as delicious as a dinner i had at Gordon Ramsey's Maze in london, for comparison. Staff was so attentive and polite, an...
