I was looking for a new place to try in the South End/Dilworth area. Somehow I've tried so many of the restaurants in the area, but not this one so we decided last night was the night to try it.
I've heard great things about the food here. We went with another couple and shared everything. We got the Brussels sprouts, the truffle fries, the three cheese flat bread, the roasted mushroom flat bread, the beef sliders, and the burger.
We loved everything. The Brussels sprouts were very unique with great flavor. The flat breads were perfectly crispy. The truffle fries were awesome. The burger was one of the best I've had in Charlotte. The sliders were equally delicious.
I've noticed a trend recently that some of the best burgers are not from burger places, and I love discovering an under the radar burger (check out the Crunkleton too).
We finished off with the donuts for dessert. They are cinnamon sugar and powdered sugar with caramel and dark chocolate dipping sauces. I was shocked that you got four of each. They're donut hole style but they're really big. Both were amazing. I was surprised that I actually liked the powdered sugar a little more since I'm not usually a big fan of powdered sugar donuts.
The only thing I didn't like a whole lot was the space. It was very crowded and loud. They have wine everywhere, but there isn't room to browse without being on top of someone's table and there isn't much room to walk by. It felt like deciding to make this a restaurant was an after thought in that regard.
It's definitely on the upscale side, but not as much as some of the other wine bars. We definitely didn't fit in with the rest of the clientele. The good news is, the prices are still very reasonable (at least the food, we didn't have wine).
It's also a pretty popular place to go. At 8 on a Friday night, there was about a 15 minute wait for a table of 4.
All in all, I definitely think this is a restaurant...
Read moreMy friend and I checked out this location yesterday evening and we had one of the most disappointing experience.
The service was simply horrible. To start off we began with a male server that never checked back we had to flag him down every-time. Then he just disappeared and we got another server she was sweet, but once again disappeared with no communication. After that things really went down hill. The two servers (male & female) that were taking over in the late evening were some of the rudest people. Keep in mind we were left without a sever for almost an hour. We tried to order more donuts and flag the male down and his first words was "who’s your server" we explained we didn’t have one. Once again we were left stranded no server no service. I had to go up to the register inside to ask for a knife and the female server made the rudest comment by saying "for a donut" I proceeded to say well yes "it’s a big donut". She acted as if a guest asking for a knife was a chore. Finally we flagged down the manager and explain the piss poor service we’ve been receiving. She gave a fake apology and took off a whopping $5 off our check!! $5 is not enough for the night we had especially when we spent almost $200. As minorities we felt very shunned and it’s hard not to bring race into it when we are watching white guests get checked on, brought things with all smiles and giggles. The two servers that were working that night had no problem being kind and providing excellent service for other tables but us. My friend and I will not be coming back here and spending our hard earn money just to be ignored and disrespected. We will be contacting higher management about this situation it was...
Read moreLet me start off by saying my experience at this particular location is not typical of this chain. I have been to the Southpark location (Fairview) and the experience there was absolutely 100% amazing. This place, well, let's just say, they should not put a place that's so visible to the public if they want the public to see it and experience it. I happened to come across this location as I walked my puppy and thought "why not?" He was thirsty and so was I. They had tables that were open (tables for two) that had no reservation sign and with a dog, I sat as discreetly as possible at one of them but so I could still be visible to the hostess/ waitress. Not long after I sat down, I was basically chided for sitting down at a table that "should have had a reservation sign!" Sounds more like a you problem and not a me problem. The hostess went around started putting Reservation signs on tables so I couldn't sit and then she told me "I can stick you at the back table where you won't be disturbed!" Hint: stuck me at a corner table where no one including staff could see me. I was tended to one time. After almost 30 minutes, I was done waiting. I walked up to the hostess and told her I wanted to leave and to pay up. Probably, my worst individual dining experience and to make one feel like a child told off for your mistake. I'll be sure to not stop by or recommend. Your hostess is probably one of the most unpleasant human beings I've ever had the misfortune to meet and as you can see from my reviews, I've never given a...
