My daughter and I love trying different Japanese restaurants. We are very spoiled in our area with the exceptionally good food, but we also like to explore when we travel. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that this is undoubtedly some of the best Japanese cuisine I have ever experienced in this country. While very enjoyable, I think of miso soup and house ginger salad as being typical with a hibachi style meal. Konnichiwa's however, was something else entirely. I could eat their miso soup everyday for the rest of my life with no problem. And while the typical ginger dressing is why the salad is always appealing, Konnichiwa's was just out of this world. I literally tipped up the bowl and drank the dressing when no one was looking!! I've had the pleasure of having sushi at five star restaurants. Konnichiwa's was better. It was served with an elegant and upscale presentation, and tasted delightfully fresh and authentic. While I dream of hibachi style chicken, that is so tender it melts in your mouth, yet again, Konnichiwa far surpassed my expectations. Somehow they prepared it with a light crispy layer on the exterior, while it was still very tender on the inside, if not more so than normal. The service was not only impeccable, but everyone was all smiles and seemed to genuinely enjoy being there. This is as opposed to the rushed, stressed, annoyed "turn and burn" attitudes we seem to find in our area. Devi treated us with the greatest of care, and was genuinely concerned with ensuring that every aspect of our meal was pleasurable. Wow, my only regret is that we don't have one closer! I can actually see making the 3-hour drive from Charleston just to come visit...

A Solid Spot with Room for Improvement

I discovered Konnichiwa Japanese Restaurant online while searching for ramen and decided to give it a try since it consistently popped up in my search. While the restaurant does have ramen on the menu, I was a bit disappointed to find there’s only one ramen dish available, as this was the main reason for my visit. With that said, I decided to explore other options on the menu.

The calamari was fantastic and cooked perfectly. Staying true to my tradition, I ordered a lychee martini, but unfortunately, it tasted mostly like sour mix and could use some improvement. On a brighter note, the house ginger salad was delicious, and the snapper bento box I ordered was flavorful and satisfying. To top off dinner I ordered Fried Ice Cream. The flavors were there but the outer coating could have been fried a little longer to achieve the crispy exterior I was expecting.

Throughout my visit, the restaurant was bustling with patrons, and I noticed a lot of people ordering sushi, which seems to be a standout here. The sushi menu is quite extensive, and I’d consider coming back to give it a try.

Overall, Konnichiwa is a decent spot with great options outside of ramen. If you’re a sushi lover or looking for a variety of Japanese dishes, it’s worth checking out. Just don’t go in expecting a...

I have been to Konnichiwa more times now than I can admit. I seriously love it.

It's hard to find good sushi spots in Charlotte, in my opinion. And by good, I mean flavor, price, vegetarian variety, customer service, etc. There are probably only 2 or 3 sushi spots in all of Charlotte that I like, with Konnichiwa being one of them. First off, their customer service is absolutely perfect. I have been here times when there are 2 guys walking around and even a few days ago, when there was only 1 person who was seating people, taking their orders, fulfilling orders, filling up water, cashing out, etc. Literally an all in one person, I would assume based on short staff...but he was absolutely killing it!

Food wise, my husband and I get pretty much the same thing everytime. I get a miso soup - which is extremely delicious, sometimes I get edamame which is tasty as well, and a Christmas Roll (Avocado, Cucumber, Cream Cheese, topped with seaweed salad) with a side of spicy mayo & jalapeños. Mmmm mmmm mmmm!!! SO TASTY!! My husband usually gets a Chicken Bento box which comes with Chicken, 4 California Rolls, Mixed veggies, rice, and a side of yum yum sauce.

I definitely recommend if you've never been!! I guarantee...

Reminds me of the OLD Nikkos before they moved into their huge, loud, crowded location. Small Japanese Sushi and Teppanyaki restaurant in Dilworth on East Blvd. Great drinks, reasonably priced. $3 Mimosas Weekends. Sushi, Sashimi, Ramen and Tempura. Coming from Los Angeles it's hard to find a good Sushi restaurant. Every item was excellent. Our waiter was Gede from Bali and was great. Free parking inside the building. Worth it. Quiet vibe. Nice people. We had the Northern Roll / Lobster Claw, and the Sleeping Beauty / Strawberry Tuna Roll (?), Gyoza, Fried Brussel Sprouts. Would go for some more basic rolls the next time, but they were good and reasonably priced for the amount of food they served. The Tempura Veg was crispy and hot asparagus, broccoli, onion, eggplant, sweet potato. It's hard to please my husband sometimes, and we usually go to Musashi in Pineville because we like smaller places with less noise. This place has more selection-- a REALLY big menu actually.

Great local sushi spot I keep coming back to! I’ve been to Konichiwa in Charlotte several times now and it’s consistently a solid experience. The sushi is fresh and flavorful — the Maruu , Negitoro and Salmon Lover Roll are personal favorites and definitely worth trying. They have a very extensive menu, which can be a bit overwhelming at times. While the variety is great, I think a more focused selection could make the experience even better. Parking is a plus — there’s a covered lot behind the shop, which is super convenient especially on rainy days. Prices are a little higher than some of the other neighborhood sushi spots, but that’s understandable since they also offer quality steak and seafood dishes alongside sushi. Overall, it’s a good spot whether you’re grabbing a casual dinner or going on a nice night out. Definitely recommend if you’re in the area!
