Backyard Brew is in a word: incredible. Regretfully, I drove past this cottage gem many times, hurrying here or there, since their opening. I WAS MISSING OUT.
So glad I finally made a point to stop. This was my third visit in less than two weeks and each experience as well as orders have been nothing short of amazing. BB’s coffee and espresso are literally so so good — flavorfully robust yet smooth, not watery or weak, and well-balanced. Tastes “pure”.
As one who loves coffee and prefers each served with intensity, BB’s more than surpasses my expectations. I also believe theirs would be agreeable to most palettes, even those preferring the lesser end of the coffee-forward spectrum.
I applaud their many options and allowances for customizations. Their list of flavors, most if not all organic and natural extracts, make for some of the best iced lattes I’ve ever had. For example, banana extract and mint leaf additions, fresh grown on site.
I want to first promote their coffee and menu as legit but haven’t even scratched the surface of why this ranks for me as one of the greatest, if not best, coffee houses in Charlotte. Besides their tasty offerings, Backyard Brew is family owned and operated by some of the most wonderful personalities and kind dispositions I’ve encountered. Their Jordanian heritage (some German, too, if not mistaken) brings an extra genuine warmth, knowledge, and hospitable flair to the already top notch service. Not only are they welcoming and inclusive of all, they literally go out of their way to acknowledge, inquire, and connect with each and every patron. Special shout outs to PK, Badar, and Hannah for your kindness, as well as the rest of the staff.
Further, just when you think the delicious drinks, food, and hospitality are enough — BB outdoes themselves again by fostering a creative and encouraging environment. Adults and children alike are free to write, draw, and express on literally everything inside from the walls to the table tops. It is just stellar.
In summary, I could praise on and on, but Backyard Brew is quite simply magnificent. This will be my new hub going forward and I’m excited for more amazing visits. Give them a try, you won’t regret it!

Read moreEverything was really good- the breakfast burrito, the cold brew and the strawberry matcha, the atmosphere is cute and overall I really liked the place, but there was confusion with my order because I ordered a nitro cold brew with oat milk, I asked does the nitro cold brew have ice? They said no, I said yes! Perfect that’s what I want. I don’t like ice in my iced coffee. (I feel like there was miscommunication) they asked me how much milk I wanted and I was open to having it how it’s made if they were to add the oat milk, they asked me multiple times I said a splash is fine, she asked if I wanted it like a latte I said a latte amount is fine (every cafe tends to do different versions of nitro cold brews) so I didn’t really know how much to put in, I’m not picky about the amount of milk, I think they meant it to be nice but it didn’t fully come off this way. (I wanted the nitro cold brew because I didn’t want ice and I usually drink darker coffee, but I felt overstimulated because I was asked multiple times, and never tried this place Before. The lady working at the front was very helpful and friendly, they called me back up and the lady in the back making the coffee told me “I’m making you a cold brew because the nitro is meant to be enjoyed black or dark” but I didn’t want ice, and I didn’t realize that it had it, they made my drinks and I left and felt kind of like I was talked down to. I didn’t want to write this but it honestly has been kind of on my mind since yesterday. It was just kind of rude, just make the coffee how the customer wants? I didn’t want to write this but I felt like the place overall was great, but maybe be prepared for some energy that’s a little off. I will definitely try it again but not in a...
Read moreI had a wonderful experience visiting this coffee shop! From the moment we walked in, the owner and staff were incredibly welcoming, caring, and attentive—you can really tell they take pride in what they do. They were not only friendly but also informative and open to feedback, which made the whole visit feel very personal and comfortable.
One thing that stood out was their flexibility in adjusting the drinks to suit our preferences. Whether it was sweetness level, milk options, or flavor balance, they were more than happy to tailor the drinks to our taste. That kind of customer-focused approach is rare and truly appreciated.
The concept and atmosphere of the shop were also excellent—funky, creative, and perfect for either relaxing and vibing with friends. It has that special vibe that makes you want to come back.
As for the drinks, while they were good, I think there’s still some room for refinement in terms of flavor balance and consistency. That said, I’m confident that with such a receptive and skilled team, any feedback given would be taken seriously and improvements would follow.
Overall, this place has huge potential and is already doing so many things right. I’ll definitely be back and I’m excited to see how they...
